Speculation: Trotz: "If we don't get it going, then I'm going to start our rebuild plan."

Typical clickbait. I believe he said "a part" or "some parts of our rebuild plan". That can mean literally anything.

Yeah the rest of the quote is basically him specifying that he's been rebuilding for almost 2 years, but may trade more of the fringe guys now

Stamkos, March, skjei, josi and forsberg all have NMC, and good luck getting them to waive from their no tax state team. The only players worth anything would be saros whose NMC kicks in next July and RoR. If Nashville is out at the deadline I’d move both pieces with small retention.

Don't the Preds only have 1 retention slot left?

They definitely have one used. Whether they have a second used or not depends on the outcome of Ryan Johansen grieving his contract termination, if I understand the process correctly. For the time being, they likely have to operate as though they only have one open retention slot.

All of the above, without question, are tradable assets.

Stamkos, Marsh, and Forsberg have no movement clauses, and Saros will as of July 1st.

Yes it is very much a question as to them being tradeable assets.

And even with Saros they aren't moving him after moving Askarov.

As a Devils fan all I heard is how big a mistake it was losing Brunette....

I do think it was really a ploy - actions behind the words will be the only way it can be seen as having teeth.

Doing this ploy before a Wedgewood start seems suboptimal.

You think that Stamkos, Marsh and Forsberg would be eager to stay in Nashville if Trotz announced a rebuild?

Are you serious?
Stamkos is a liability 5v5, and that decline has been coming for some time. Nobody is going to line up to give assets for that, for the pleasure of a 4 year x $8 mil contract. He's good at standing in one spot on the PP, and being fed passes... that's about it these days. Two even strength points, and a -11... and what a -26 last year regular season and playoffs? I appreciate that +- isn't the greatest stat, but in this case he wears it.

I'd agree that the others would likely waive, if given the opportunity.
