Until the winning poster comes back I'll ask this : a player that will face France on sunday spent many developping years as a youngster on a french team/academy (from 17 to 20 year old) and yet never played for said team.

Which player, which team?

Correct.

The rule change was brought about after India, who'd played barefoot at the 48 Olympics, qualified for the finals (by virtue of being the only Asian federation not to withdraw, apparently).

OK, which two players who will play tomorrow in the final are in legal turmoil and could risk prison in a trial that gets placed in september for false testimony and money misappropriation?

That's insane!

France only beat them 2-1 with an 89th minute goal.

Legend has it that they refused to compete in the 1950s finals because of the barefoot ban. In fact, the reason was that they didn't think the World Cup was important and therefore refused to undertake the time and effort of travelling to distant Brazil to compete (maybe they inherited this ignorance from their former colonial masters, from whom they'd only just gained independence).

It was surely the moment any chance of football rivalling cricket for India's affections was lost and, as such, a fascinating 'what if' moment in the sport's history.

Modric and Lovren
