Player Discussion Trevor Zegras : Part III

I think he is, but I don't think you need to be sophisticated to sense that you're responsible for a thing that could be perceived as bad and to have an urge to rationalize it. Even children do that instinctively.
Agreed. Cro knows what is being said about his influence on Z. He knows Z is no where near producing at the rate he’s capable of. To me this screams Cro trying to justify his influence on Z by telling everyone how great Z is now…… even though he doesn’t play great offense anymore. This type of quote is more self serving IMO.

Sad part is, other than Lacombe, Cro’s influence has done this to all our young players. He just doesn’t know how to coach better offense out of players.

That’s a strange statement since it would entirely depend on the return.
Well I’d agree more with that statement he said considering the return most likely isn’t going to be as good as it should be with how the last two years have gone and I have major optimism he’s still developing into an absolute stud.

MOST LIKELY if we traded him it would be a massive mistake that will bite us in the ass I’d say.

Latest rumor is Z is all but gone. If not at the deadline then during the off-season. I still dont know how much weight I put into these reports, but they arent going away. Maybe if hes back to start the season the rumors will calm down, but if management really is dead-set on trading him, then there is no reason to pull guys like Mac away from center to see what Z can do instead.

Post the source. If it’s legit, it will remain up. If it isn’t, I don’t want to read it transcribed by users and relayed as second hand information with zero opportunity for me to evaluate the quality of the source myself. I don’t think it’s impossible, but the only quality sources I’ve seen talking about him seem to consider a trade less likely than to start the year - and even then, even the quality sources seemed to really overstate the chance of a trade on the grounds of Verbeek „taking calls“ on him, with no reputable source ever suggesting as much as him being actively shopped.

I haven’t seen any real sources saying he’s gone but I personally get the vibe that he’s not in the teams future past July.

I just feel like he will be the trade chip utilized to bring back a forward who’s more proven

Now, will it be the right decision in the end is a totally different story and will depend on the return

Source was Friedman. Was posted in some IG stories that have since rolled over, but Ill see if I can find other mention of it.

Honestly, we've been dealing with the Zegras rumors for so long that even if Friedman reported it, I dont know how much stock to put into it. Hes the Bobby Ryan of the Ducks trade rumor mill.

I posted that simply to say, if managements got it in their head that Zegras needs to be moved, then the coaching staff is going to approach his usage differently than if he was a cornerstone player. No matter what *might* be the best usage of his skillset, the coaching staff would need to prioritize others development over Z.

Was listening to the Ducks segment of 32 thoughts from yesterday. Fried didn’t say anything like Zegras is all but gone. Just more wondering what theyll do with him.

Friedmanns podcast a couple days ago didn’t really sound like that to me, at all. He noted (IIRC) that the sense is that the organization mostly felt that he has done what was asked of him. He didn’t squash the possibility of PV still not seeing a right fit ging forward, but Friedmann really isn’t a reason to assume Z gets moved now.

This reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where they're lost in the parking garage looking for their car. Finally after so many times of one of them saying "I found it!" and that not being the case, Jerry says "Nobody say they've found it until we're sitting in it!."

Nobody say there's a rumor Zegras is getting traded until he's actually traded.

Yeah, Friedmann's podcast the other day made it seem like Zegras was staying around unless Verbeek got absolutely blown away with an offer. I certainly didn't get the sense that the Ducks are shopping him.

With a small add we might even be able to snag a 60 point young'ish center!

Since Zegras seems to be the straw that stirs the drink for the Ducks, it will be good to see him back tonight.

Of course the other trolls around the league will say that the Ducks are showcasing Zegras for the inevitable trade for futures and a bag of used pucks.

I told my season ticket account rep. that if Zegras is traded while Cronin is still the coach, I am not renewing. I know many others feel the same way. Any discussion of who we might get in return is irrelevant because it's almost guaranteed the Ducks wouldn't get fair value for Z given his drastically lower point production since Cronin became his coach.

They'd say we'd be lucky to get the used pucks.

The return will be disappointing. Top 6F/4D + 1st.

I don't know, depending on the Top 6F, that's actually a decent return. Zegras right now is a .4 PPG guy. I know we all think he can be better under a different coach (he certainly produced more under Eakins), but right now, a guy who's a legitimate point producer would be an upgrade.

Personally, I'm not a fan of trading him and don't think they will, but if the Ducks are getting a solid top 6F and a 1st round pick, that's not disappointing to me. I know I'm not as big of a Zegras believer as others here, though.

Logal Mailloux + pick 21 (would have been Solberg) for Zegras and 2nd round pick

Joel Farabee + 2025 1st for Zegras. The 1st would likely be from Colorado or Edmonton so outside the top 20 and considered a 2nd round quality this draft

Zegras would be the best player in either of these trades.

Neither of those guys is a top 6 forward.
