On paper, wing can be as simple as north-south and positioning. But, who knows how a player views what he has to do or the challanges of what he's doing.

Rarely does a winger just walk into the center position vs a center playing wing.

I just came here to judge fans opinion of Z. I was expecting a bit of the Dubois hate the LA fans had but instead see a lot of support.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with Z. Dubois sucked, had zero work ethic, and didn't listen to coaches. Zegras is the exact opposite, he's doing everything the coaches are asking from him and he's engaged in the locker room and the guys have respect for him and look up to him too.

He's not the problem, Ducks coaching is.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with Z. Dubois sucked, had zero work ethic, and didn't listen to coaches. Zegras is the exact opposite, he's doing everything the coaches are asking from him and he's engaged in the locker room and the guys have respect for him and look up to him too.

He's not the problem, Ducks coaching is.

We have coaching problems too and worse, we can't hire anyone who doesn't speak french.

I'm a 65 year Habs fan and come from an era when a coach said jump...and the players fought each other as to who will jump higher.

Those days are gone forever and so are the players who didn't call it a good game unless there was blood on their shirt.

Both our clubs are building and building...but hope we don't become the Sabres

Dubois was also linked to the habs and thankfully, we dodged that nuke.

He was a player that i took at his word that he wanted to play for the home team...and i felt like an idiot to give him ANY credibility.

My main problem with a Z trade was a concern about his future $$ demands. With Laine and Demidov, that is "nearly" dead.

There is no such thing as never. .but.

Hope he turns it around. Hockey can be pretty exciting when the uber skilled players turn it on.

The point is about centers...

We need a rock solid 2C. Nothing flashy but should be a defensive monster as well as help us get past our one line team. Hage is coming but like all saviours, first he has to go past the NHL diaper stage. Will he be that 60 point second line center? Stay tuned.

Can Z fill that? Of course he can...but...at what cost? And is he compatible with the Habs long term plans? Of course like every fan in the league, we want everyone possible but they also need to be rewarded and given we have a potential star in Demidov plus keeping Laine plus Hutson plus Dach plus plus plus....do we have room for another 8 million player? Assuming of course he's a 60-80 point guy.

I don't know.

As for a trade itself...

What I do know is both teams are circling the bottom of the mud pool and still years away from walking on the Promised Land. Neither of us possess that spare tradable magical player that will ignite our ascent from the mud. Any trade would be to dig a hole....to fill a hole.

Z will never be a defensive monster, but it's looking like he won't be a liability like he was early on in his career. He may even be above average, which if he can get back to a 60+ point pace will be just fine as a 2C for us. Carlsson and hopefully Gaucher (Nathan, not misspelling Cutter's last name haha) will be our better defensive guys and maybe McTavish or someone else at 3C.

Right now, our problem (among many other things) is guys finding the back of the net. They are either hitting posts, missing the net, or just completely whiffing on passes. If one or two guys catch fire (looking at Vatrano and Cutter), stats could balance out a bit more.

Wishes, dreams...and reality.

We don't know.

Hage can be a monster or a mouse. The only way we know for sure is 100 games or so in the NHL.

Demidov is too talented to be burdened with defensive side if he's not already trained into that role.

We shall see...

With McTavish not yet a bonafide centre himself, the Ducks would be morons to trade Z. Way too much potential himself and it’d also put a ton more pressure on Leo. One of the big bonuses of drafting Leo, who was an even higher-calibre prospect, was that focus would shift away from Z. Fans of other teams have gotta understand that Z isnt some guy on the fringe of the core, he is absolutely a core piece in every sense.
