This and previous regimes left us completely lacking the trade assets to win a bidding war for Rantanen. I’m somewhat impressed that Bowman would even try, let alone apparently get close. We’ve been talking about Frederic as a smart option for months and the only question was if Boston was going to fall out of the playoff race and make him available. Calling Frederic some kind of “desperation” or fall-back position after failing to miraculously reel in Rantanen is seriously disingenuous.Not to mention said player was having a terrible year. I think Bowman missed out on Rantanen and then got desperate trying to bring in any player with a pulse (even injured ones)
