Player Discussion Trent Frederic III

I think we would severely regret moving Frederic. Without Kastelic last night, he really stepped up by getting involved. If he's traded, we are instantly going to be looking for the next middle six power forward.
Yes. Once in what, 45 games?

If he’s not carrying that “i don’t give a f***” attitude with him more games than not, he’s not very useful

I like the suggestion that was made where we trade Coyle and keep Freddy at 3C. Makes a lot of sense to me, Coyle is struggling to fit into the lineup this year.

It all comes down to price obviously

I have a hard time envisioning the Bruins moving Coyle, but he only has one year left anyway. You could pay Frederic's rate knowing Coyle and his salary would be gone soon and just deal with a year of overpay in that spot.

That said, I would like to see the Freddy continue this before going there. If he finishes what he's started over the past few games and nails down the 3C spot, okay.

Speaking of face offs EL is top 10 in the NHL and gets no love for it
That is one part of his game that we need.
We overpaid for EL, based on our lack of depth at Center.
He is a great number 3 center, good #2 and not a #1.
Until we fix this and get a bona fide #1 center we will continue to struggle.
The 12 forwards that we play on a consistent basis, I would rate and to summarize:

We have one player that can play on the first line.
Missing two more.
Three on the second line.
4 on the third line
4 on the fourth line

Pasta -legit #1
Marchand - #4
Lindholm #5
Zacha - #6
Coyle - #9
Brazeau - #9
Freddy - #9
Geekie - #9
Koepke - #12
Kastelic - #12
Beecher - #12
Wally - #12

Where is this Lindholm top 10 FO coming from? He is 30-34 and behind Kastelic and Beecher on his own team. He also isn't a "good 2C". At best low end 2C and if new CBA allows a buyout he gets bought out.

Bennett is a superior skater to Frederic, better hockey sense and because a more fluid skater a more impactful body checker. #11 being Kastelic intense isn't closing the gap between #11 and Bennett to that degree.

I think you underestimate Frederic's skating when he decides to move his feet. And that goes hand in hand with his effectiveness as a checker. Can't disagree on the hockey sense.

It's all how you look at it, he's #9 in face offs won, and #22 in win %. A lot of guys ahead of him in win % barely have any faceoffs
Every guy with a higher win % I counted is a center.

What sight are you getting that # from? NHL Stats has him 51st, but 20 of them like you say are not centers but I ID almost 30 actual centers with better #'s.

Bennett can go from 0-60 faster than Frederic in short to mid distances which matters significantly in a foreheck and body checking.

Freddy looks much better at center.

I'm not overly concerned about his poor faceoff numbers. Sam Bennett, another name that has popped up here, also has poor faceoff numbers but he's still a useful player. If Freddy can keep making a positive impact on the ice and keep his mojo up, it'll be easier to overlook his lack of faceoff prowess.

That's fair, some weighted stats of FO% and total won should be taken into account and I'd say he falls somewhere between 10-25 range.
Yup for goals we put more weight on the actual # of goals and way less on shooting %. For face offs the actual # won should have consideration instead of the winning % alone...but ELs winning percentage is pretty good as well. He's really good at face offs as we were to be expected when he signed.
