Well what is Frederic's value? I would say his play this year has had a significant impact on his value. considering he is a UFA at season end

He isn't bringing a Jeannot haul, sadly. Maybe had they dealt him over the summer they could have gotten in that ballpark, but I also don't blame Sweeney for not moving him over the summer. I think he could bring a second rounder and maybe a prospect still. That to me would be selling low. Not exciting, I agree, but decent.

He was never getting the Jeannot haul.

That was one of the worst trades in the history of trades. No one is making that mistake twice.

I know, just using that as an example of a great return (why couldnt it have been us that got that???). If Freddie had been moved last summer I think he could have brought back a first and a good prospect, maybe more. Not Jeannot of course, but something really good.

Only if you know he isn't re-signing and getting something is better than nothing. I am tired of seeing Freddy out there doing next to nothing game in and game out, but there is always the hope that he finally gets going this season, and if a deal can't be made, there is not harm for Sweeney to wait till the last possible moment to see if the trade value increase.s

Perhaps, It all depends where the team is and he is as they get to the trade deadline. At that point he might be playing better and the team is in decent shape for postseason, and you don't trade him

At that point he might be playing better and the team is on the outs, and you trade him for more than you could get today

Or he may be playing the same and the team is on the outs and you trade him for what you could trade him for now.

If Frederic were traded tomorrow in a hockey deal, then so be it. But no way do I consider dumping him for picks because I am worried about resigning him until the deadline

I hope they resign him at decent $ longer term, keep him as their #3 C, and deal Coyle (who might be the only forward who's played worse in the bottom 6).

Beginning of the year thought he'd price himself out, these days who knows.

Do you not find he gets the ice up ice and deep? I don’t think he will ever be a dynamic goal scorer. But he is a decent bottom six guy with speed. I wish he was a touch more violent but he hits, gets pucks up ice and scores occasionally. If he gets 1.5 mil are we going to be mad?

Trent Frederic is focused on the here and now.

Currently the Bruins’ third-line center — though he’s played both wing spots up and down the lineup this season — he doesn’t dwell on the future.

Frederic’s contract status (he’s up at the end of the season) and availability (he’s frequently mentioned in trade rumors) are not things that occupy his thoughts most days.

“Honestly, I haven’t thought about it in a long time,” he said following Monday’s practice at Warrior Arena. “I’m not in any position right now to be worried about a contract, so I’m just out there playing hard and just trying to do my best.”

As for whether he’ll be dealt leading up to the March 7 deadline?

“I don’t have Twitter, so I don’t see it all,” Frederic said. “I saw something on Instagram a month or two ago, scrolling through and you see yourself. But other than that, I don’t know. I don’t really focus on it too much. Like I said, I just take it day by day, just do my best, and I’m sure whatever happens will happen.”

There was no panic when he saw the Instagram post. No urgent call to his agent.

“No, I think I sent it to my brother. It was like, ‘Whoa,’ something like that,” Frederic said with a laugh. “But no, I mean, I’ve obviously talked to my agent throughout the year, just random stuff, but nothing too crazy.”

Frederic’s scoring is down this season with just five goals and 11 points, well off his 2023-24 numbers when he collected career highs with 18 goals and 40 points. He doesn’t think changing positions or having a rotating crew of linemates has led to the lack of production, as he’s used to that. He will acknowledge that his confidence isn’t where it should be.

“It’s been better. I mean, there’s been better moments in my career,” he said. “I’ve had more confidence, but it’s just focusing on the next game and trying to find a little bit more confidence just with the little stuff. And usually when you do that, it’ll result in big things like goals.”

Joe Sacco said he communicates regularly with Frederic but doesn’t feel the need to address contract matters with his seventh-year player. It’s clear Sacco still has confidence in Frederic, who was moved to center when Charlie Coyle bumped up to right wing on the Elias Lindholm-Brad Marchand line.

“He’s been fine,” said the coach. “There’s a lack of production, obviously. He hasn’t scored in a while. Freddy’s biggest thing is he’s got to continue to move his feet when he’s playing, and he has to be physical. I think that’s a big component of his. When he’s playing hard in the defensive zone, if he’s battling below the goal, he has his assignments defensively, finishing his checks when they’re there, being hard on pucks, those type of things, that’s when Freddy’s game elevates.

“He’s played a lot of wing over the last year and a half, so we’ve asked him to come back into the pivot. And it’s not easy. In our structure, the center has a lot of work to do. He’s got to cover a lot of ice down low. You’re tracking 200 feet up and down the ice. So, there is an adjustment for the center coming into the system. But Freddy knows it. He knows how to play it.”

Frederic, too, is comfortable with the switch, which he said, makes him “revert to defense” more.

“I think I’ve played center enough for this team and this system that you kind of play,” he said. “So, a lot of it’s reactionary, obviously there’s some system stuff, but that’s already kind of built in and there might be little tweaks here and there, but it’s mostly just reactionary.”

For forwards Kastelic and Frederic are #1 and #2 in hits this year. I don't think most anyone in here could confidently and accurately guess who's #3.

We need more physical forwards, not fewer.
