I fully admit I'm hard on Trent Frederic. Not because I don't like the guy, but because I expect more from him.

I feel like a broken record when I say I'm not sure what type of player he wants to be.

1 game he's engaged physically.
5 games you don't notice him.
1 game he scores a goal
5 games you don't notice him.
1 game he's engaged physically
3 games you don't notice him.
1 game he scores
5 games you don't notice him.

Overall for me it's the lack of consistency in his game. I use a Lucic comparison (not that he's Lucic) but when Lucic would go on cold streaks, he'd be mixing it up, trying to get involved any way he can if he's not producing offensively.

Frederic seems to be on Frederic time.

When he first came up, he was engaged every shift it seemed. He was drawing penalties, being a pest, and then started getting a bit more of a scoring touch. Once he found that he kind of abandoned everything for a bit. I'd just like to see him take initiative and get himself going any way he can.

@PlayMakers has said for a long time now that Frederic wants to be a Charlie Coyle type player- a puck possession forward that plays a skilled cycle game. Now Coyle has had his issues this season with scoring, but one thing he almost never does is take nights off. He can be ineffective, but the guy still works hard out there. Trent does not seem to have that kind of motor on him (at least that he's ever showed since very early on), but he's also seemingly not interested in returning to the agitator/enforcer-lite that he was when he was trying to make the team. Thus we have what we have.

This is my issue. He seems more than content on being this guy, and if this is what he is and will be?

See ya.

I could not agree more. He is not good enough or consistent enough to be a Coyle type player, and doesn't want to be a power forward, so, yep, see ya, especially when we can almost bet that his contract ask is going to be north of $4m with a commensurate term.

Not sure what Coyle your watching the guy I'm seeing has mailed in every game other than the centennial one.

I like Trent Frederic. I’m critical of him right now because his play hasn’t matched what we’ve seen from him in the past.

He’s a guy who has improved his play every season until this year. And this year - my god could we use some Frederic at his best.

Look no further than that top line. Team isn’t deep enough at top six talent to have an ideal option in that LW slot. But damn if it’s not a tailor-made opportunity for a guy like Freddy to take it and run. He’s got speed. He can hit. He has puck skill and can disrupt the opposition in three zones. He has a decent shot. He sticks up for his teammates. He’s the perfect compliment for that line.

Instead his play has been so lacklustre that Morgan f***in’ Geekie is showing to be a better fit on that top unit - on his off-wing. What does Geekie do better than Frederic? I think the only thing you can say this season is “show the f*** up.”

It’s frustrating because we know he can be so much better.

I'm watching the same guy, I just don't see him mailing it in. I see him struggling to generate offense and at times keep up with the play. He's been ass, no question, but I do not see a lack of effort from him, just a lack of results.

I like Geekie's game of late but I don't see him as any indictment of Frederic. I mean their production on the year is basically identical and only one of em is playing with their best offense threats while the other has been chained to the ghost of Charlie Coyle.

What a road trip to forget

5 games, 0 points, 9 hits, 4 sog.

How do you extend this guy for good money at this point?
Agree. I feel that those of us who like him, myself included, like what we want him to be. I thought we had us a 20 goal 100 pim guy who could fill in in the top six. We want him to be consistently physical by hitting when the opportunity is there and dropping the gloves when needed. We have never seen any of this consistently and I doubt we’re ever going to at this point.

I wonder if he would fulfill his potential on another team (St. Louis). Apparently, he has drawn a lot of interest around the league. I think it would be foolish to not take the best offer for him and move along. I feel like we’ve waited long enough for him to be fully engaged. Like you said, how do you extend this guy long term for good money? Keep in mind he should be going all out this year more than in the past. He just doesn’t seem interested in being a Bruin.

Coyle leads the team in takeaways. He's double the 2nd placed F (Pasta). The ONLY forward who doesn't have a negative differential in takeaways to giveaways.

Want to know who is dead last among forwards in takeaways? Your boy, Trent Frederic.

I feel bad for Coyle being constantly paired up with Frederic the Road Phantom. Like skating with a boat anchor on his left wing.

I honestly think this is the first time anyone has ever trotted out "takeaways" alone as a stat to prop up a player. BTW that boat anchor is having a rough year and still outproducing him.

Gorgeous play by Coyle. Wahlstrom almost had his first.

Edit: wrong thread
Perfect for this thread.

I have no issue with the guy the last two years. This year for whatever reason he's a total non factor.

Again you found the right thread.

I'm pulling for both of em - just funny how they're both struggling but one is public enemy #1 the other gets praise for the smallest of things.
Most of us want Coyle gone, I'm not sure what your obsession is with comparing him to Frederic. One thankfully only has one year left after this and will hopefully be dealt at the deadline and one is a UFA looking for a long term commitment for I am assuming Marchment type money, which is why he has the majority of the focus on him.
