You will be disappointed if you think he would sign that deal. He will get 3.5-4M x3 on the open market, maybe even more.

Big, hits, fights, scores 15-20 goals even though he gets no PP time. He's trending up and is only 26yo.

He's the modern day power forward.

Ok kill me now lol

That's in the range if he stays but I don't think he does. He will make more elsewhere

Most likely. But Id move him first if / when he says no. Get something.

Fair enough.

Since it's kind of the topic du jour, what were your thoughts on his "fight" with Guftasson the other night?

I didn't mind the couple of extra punches - that kind of happens when someone else is falling down and I thought he let up with the final one that could have done real damage to the kid.

I'd rather see him go after someone else more in his class but even the top fighters fight guys with lesser fight cards out of anger and that could have been what happened the other night. Smaller guy got into a stick war with him in a blowout loss and he got pissed. I want to see this type of physical intensity from Frederic more, not less, and against the guys he should be fighting and not just the Gustafssons/Pederson's of the NHL.

Only 26 years old. See this is what I mean. You say that like he still has room to grow like he's still a prospect, meanwhile he's a UFA in 6 months. Trending up? You can't be serious.

Calling him a modern day power forward is an insult to all power forwards that have come before him. Talk about setting the bar low. Back in the day, you needed to be a guy who scored consistently (i.e. Top 6 forward), hit and fought to be labelled a Power Forward. Guys like Frederic, we called them grinders or muckers. You could also call them JAGs because really that is what he is.

When’s the last time this happened with him? And you can’t say Larsson because he had to answer for going after Poitras and he’s no shrinking violet.

He's been getting better the last two years, I feel it will be what he is.
Nothing wrong with that.

If we found out that he didn't go with Gustafsson after he ask to go the board would still chastising the kid for chickening out and not giving a shit in a blowout.

Maybe, just maybe, the TD Garden employees get a large enough raise that TF would go work there and maybe sell an extra beer to @DKH
Got a routine:

Before game
Sausage, pepper, onions at Garden grille ~ fantastic

Second intermission
Gelato - cookies & cream
(Once I learned gelato is basically health food compared to ice cream I’m all in)

However, if I’m with my buds or kid I end up drinking a 24 or 23 oz beer in the Kiosk (once I figured it out) so apparently some person in India is watching me which begs the question- if I was a very magician could I get away with say $5 Cheezits or M&Ms

Nah, you’re splitting hairs trying to find an excuse.

So let’s cut to the chase. Has Freddy looked good to you this season? Has he played up to or above expectations?

Regardless of whether you’re talking games or toi, all I need is a yes or no from you.

By asking me this, all you're doing is putting aside the sample size argument you've chosen.

Pick a goal post, and stop moving it.

As to your take on him, I said what you're saying, but pages ago. Pay him as a bottom 6. Not a top 6.

Yup

Can’t count the number of times I’ve seen ppl frustrated with Frederic for not being aggressive enough and forcing a fight. Some dummy way out of his depth decides to engage with him in a blowout and gets one-punched in a fair fight where both guys agreed and knew what was up. And Frederic is somehow the bad guy.

if he had skated away those same people would be screaming in here. If this makes Frederic a bully good, I want bullies. I don’t care about “the code”.

More concerned with the giving up 8 goals last game

FWIW, the people online outside of Boston trying to paint Freddy as some goon or fighter- That was his second fight this season. He had 7 on the season last year. More than most but I wouldn't call him a fighter or goon.. And yes, 100 percent I would have been pissed if he didnt square up with Gustafsson. Especially where it seems hes the one who asked. Didnt look like Freddy forced his hand.

The difference between a Monty team getting shelled and a Sacco team getting shelled is at least the guys punched a few faces in and looked like they gave a damn.. Yes they still lost. By a lot.
But to me this is a big difference.

I also see this idea that he doesn’t fight for his teammates….

Well he did this exact same thing to a guy that ran Bergeron. Sent him to the quiet room. That’s kind of unforgettable, not like I have to rack my brain to find an example of him sticking up for ours

I'm not sure this is allowed, but I want to steer this in a different direction:

What is the most you extend him for?
I think I'd cut it off at 3.5 max depending on how the rest of this season goes.

Term wise I could see an argument for signing him for 5 years at lower money, kinda like Miles Woods' last contract, but I'm weary though given his lack of engagement and consistency some nights you might not want to commit too long to him.

I think you can get someone to overpay a bit on him, like Tampa did for Jeannot, and I'd explore that route first.

Yeah, I was just going to post this. Imagine the outrage if Frederic refused to fight Gustafson in a blowout.

He started the confrontation. Why is that fact completely ignored?

The issue here is he started that crap in a blow-out game to begin with. He knew exactly what he was doing and who he was doing it to. Good on Gustafsson for not putting up with it and telling Trent "F&^% you". But that outcome or challenge from Gustafsson is exactly what Frederic was going for, make no mistake about it. He cross checks him once, then cross-checks him again, Frederic knew what the next step would be. The vast majority of NHL players aren't going to just skate away, he's knows that.

Forget the code for a minute. If Brad Marchand stepped up to Matt Rempe, and challenged him to a fight and Rempe caved his face in, fair enough if Marchand was the one who started it. Careful what you ask for.

This was a case of a player on a team getting it's ass handed to them on the scoreboard, and decided to throw a tantrum and instigate an altercation with a guy with zero fights on his resume. It's no different than some school-yard bully who goes up to a smaller kid and pokes him in the chest egging him on to do something about it. And when the little kid does, the bully beats the shit out of him.

Trent Frederic is a punk.

If Adam Lowry comes calling the next time they play the Jets, Frederic should do the right thing and oblige him.
