Cheers to Hamonic, he’s played well.

Actually a good trade for a depth RD, I think right now most Sens fans would pay a 3rd for a vet who played from top to bottom pairing, broke in Sanderson and has been a good vet. 4 seasons later he’s playing top pairing against a division rival you’re trying to unseed and he looks good in a W.

The trade, overall, has been quite good.

I don't currently want him in the top 4, myself, but he hasn't been a disaster.

I've thought the Hamonic-Kleven pair has struggled mind you that was probably mostly against Florida but he has done well alongside Sanderson with the absence of Zub. 1 GA in 70 min at 5v5 is something I think everyone should be pleased with. He has however been on the ice for every PP goal against.

He's consistently been contending for the worst defender on the roster since we acquired him.

He appears to not be completely arse because Sanderson is playing like a top 5 defender in the league, but is still slow and the weakest part of our blueline. Should've never been extended

I think he's held his own just fine this year. Agree with the sentiment that maybe him and Kleven aren't the best match, but I think Hammer looks better this year.

I’m not offering an opinion or trying to defend Hamonic, but I do find it interesting how some fans expect a bottom pairing player to play like a stud (or a 1st pair defender on a regular basis) and also get paid a low salary on top of it. I’m sure they’d like to find a good defender for the bottom pair (or 7D which Hamonic might end up being at some point this year) for under a million/year, but I will assume it's easier said than done.

And, we are having to find less than optimal solutions now with the injury to Zub.

Next year we’ll likely have that option with Yakemchuk, but we’re probably going to have to ride out the year most likely with Hamonic. If there’s a lesson learned there, it’s that good draft picks/ELCs are always good for a team and their roster. Sorry for applying any levity to situation.

I understand the situation, Staios didn't have much flexibility when it comes to Hamonic. He's difficult to move because Hamonic has control where he goes and he's bad at hockey which makes it even harder to move him if a deal comes up.

He's a bottom-pairing defender being asked to play up the lineup due to injury, and kudos to him for putting the work in to play his absolute best. I hope he can play even better, but I don't think its sustainable for Sanderson's elite play to keep masking how slow Hamonic is. I am looking forward to having more depth at RD as the Zub returns and hoping that JBD can keep progressing in his play

Hamonic is playing well right now. Might as well enjoy it.

Remember when Gudbranson was here and looked terrible and then he went to Calgary and played a vet friendly system and he looked excellent for 2 years.

Travis Green hockey makes all 7 D that have played this year look good. And Sanderson has looked incredible. They have all elevated

You appear not to understand the situation

He's a bottom pair /7D guy that provides veteran experience and some physical play that's making 1.5M.

There's nothing wrong with that.

50 games. 16 minutes a night.

Maybe play 20 minutes in a dozen or so games.

They're not expecting him to play dominant top pair minutes, just hold the fort while we're dealing with injuries which he's doing

lol to the people who magically thought he would somehow be better at this age

Hope Zub is back soon, Hammer needs to be a 16 min guy max, not 20.
He's a 12 ES, 2 PK for 35/40 games a year guy, at the abosulte most. He was an incredible defensibe player, had a fantastic career and would wipe the floor with everyone posting on here, but he's been a pressbox guy for the past 5 seasons.

Taking him on a Western road trip and matching him against Eichel/Mackinnon for 20+ minutes a night is insane. I know we are missing Zub, but if we are going to match lines against the best of the league, we need Jenson up there.

It seems that the Sanderson-Hamonic pairing got absolutely caved. I'd be surprised if they weren't -30 for shot attempts in the past 2 games alone.

Yeah, I'd rather JBD in that spot tbh, Hamonic started off ok, but he struggles with faster teams, so Utah and Colorado were brutal for him.

Everyone and their mothers knew we needed an extra RD.

Every legit fan knew.

Brutal.
It's not even that Brannstrom is a Norris candidate, but isn't he clearly better than Hamonic and JBD at this point? And he can play both sides.

We badly need another PMD. We get stuck in the D-zone way too often, and we can't slow the game down and skate the puck out of trouble right now. Brannstrom could do that, whereas JBD or Hamonic can't.

It took one injury to Zub to reveal our glaring lack of depth.

Man I got a lot of pushback this summer for saying we should buy out Hamonic and replace him with a minimum contract (which would have essentially broke even because of his age and the 2/3 BO rule). It’s crazy to look back in hindsight at how obvious it was. The only possibility I can think of is maybe that he was still injured at the time so we couldn’t perform the buyout.

Well, he's not a RHD, so there's that. I'm not a big fan of him on his offside in any situation other than trying to make a comeback when we're down late. He's not taking Chabot or Sanderson's spot, he's not taking Zub or Jensen's spots. Kleven and JBD have actually done pretty well when paired together, so I don't know where he realistically fits.
