Travis Green [Head Coach]

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

The fact that Highmore, a fringe AHL player, is in the lineup at all at this time of the year is lunacy and we were bound to pay for it dearly.

However, putting on the ice vs Larkin right after a flat PP in a pivotal game is grade D coaching. Between him and Hamonic, it's like Green WANTS to make it more difficult to win than it has to be. Focus on Highmore next time he's on the ice. It's inexcusable.
There’s only 12 forwards currently available

About game 8 he said “just because you don’t play well doesn’t mean you lose the game. You won’t have your best every night but you can still win games”

Lesson learned - coach has these guys playing the best regular season hockey I’ve seen since Bryan Murray was the coach

Hammer specifically signed his deal so that he wouldn’t have to uproot his family, and I doubt he would never go back to Vancouver since he left in badish terms.

The best bet is to have him as 7th dman, for the rest of the season.
I remember reading awhile back that one of his kids has a medical condition that is being treated at T.O. hospital so the only other destination that is close and in Canada is TML. Just hope he isn't re-signed for next season as Green will continue using him whenever he can.

So let's hope the leafs sign him! Win-win.

Maybe he'll sign with the Leafs. Treliving really likes those old geriatric defensemen.

Turning point of the game: With the game tied 3-3, Green goes right back to Highmore on the PK after his disastrous performance on the previous kill (and really, his disastrous performance on the season).

The team has played great this year, but Green's lack of game feel and adjustments has been subpar all season and is frankly concerning, heading into the playoffs.

Another example is the 1st line that looked anemic all game, yet the coach waited until we were down 4-3 with 5 mins left in the game to adjust and move Zetterlund up to the top line.

Overall, not a big deal, but this was one of the most complacent and disappointing loss of the season. The team came out flat, with several player looking outright drunk and that's inexcusable.

Get Highmore out of here, demote Giroux, swap Hamonic for Jensen, tell Green it's not forbidden to make in-game adjustments. There's absolutely no reason why we should be down 0-3 in the season series vs the Montreal Canadiens. We're the better team, but simply haven't played, nor been coached like it.

IMO we should use Amadio on the PK over Highmore.
Giroux and Amadio don’t have great speed so not sure about them together. I also have no idea how much Green factors handedness into his PK pairings but it might be worth noting Highmore is a lefty so that might be why he is being used with Giroux now that Norris is gone.

With Pinto in the box, Cozens (another righty) took his place. He looked good too.

I don’t think using Highmore on the PK is really a knock on Green. It’s more of a personnel issue.

Love how Green got on his players and said they were out worked and outplayed. No days off, playoff mode already

Ullmark has to take some responsibility.

His rebound control was not good all night. He wasn't tracking the puck well and left a lot to clean up right in front of him.

Even when he’s playing well, I find rebound control to be his weakness.

His game against Detroit was perhaps his best in that regard. He was tracking the puck and directing rebounds away from danger areas or having the puck just absorb into him.

We need him to get rolling again for us to establish our playoff spot. It would be great if he could get some rest before then, too.

Seems like we're finally made some adjustments to the PK to take away that path for the down low attacker to walk right in for a chance, I think we're using a hybrid of the diamond and box now, we seem to be set up in a box when the puck is down low now.

Too early to say if it's working better overall or not but I'm less stressed when the puck is down low now

He has been making in game adjustments all season. I dont like Highmore either he gets more ice time in crucial situations than I would like but to suggest Green doesn't have a feel for the game this season doesn't really add up for me personally. I have seen him do it all year, adjusting and riding players that are playing well.

Id rather see Amadio get Highmore's spot on the PK.

Montreal is playing really well and has been for a while. The first two games against Montreal were different situations than the last one.

Green's obsession with his former Canucks will be this team's downfall.
Your 6/7th D man and 13th forward are not what sinks or lifts a team. They are literally the least important players on your team.

I hope if the entire roster is healthy neither play. But they arent important enough to be the reason the team loses.

When a coach knows exactly what they are going to get from a player when they have that little importance to the roster they tend to end up going with what works. I dont love it but I understand it.

He does adjust game-over-game and generally does a good job at that. The issue is specifically in-game adjustments.

This argument makes no sense, since Highmore and Hamonic have been deployed at crucial times and their mistakes have led to goals against.

If you are able to keep an open mind to someone else's opinion it makes all the sense in the world. Everyone likes to blame it all on one guy, its the easy way out but the players that win and lose you the games arent your 12th/13th forward and your 6th d man. Fans like a scape goat, just shows how well this team is playing overall when people try to blame it on one guy.

Totally open to yours (and all others') opinions. Didn't mean what was written as an attack at all... I just (genuinely) don't get the logic.

For example, if you're a forward on the PK and the puck ends up on your stick along the boards, with time, space and minimal pressure, it HAS to get out of the zone. It doesn't matter if you're the RW1, 2C or LW4. The puck HAS to be out of the zone.

Similarly, if you have full possession of the puck below the hashmarks, with time, space and minimal pressure, there's no reason why it should end up on an opponent's stick instead of one of your open teammates'.

It's basic hockey.

Let's put it this way: 1) Would Highmore be playing a regular NHL shift on ANY other playoff contending roster based on the hockey sense, poise and skills he has shown so far? The answer is resounding no. 2) Would Hamonic?

Your argument basically invalidates the logic of teams that go out and acquire bottom 6 talent in an effort to push for deep playoff runs.

Does Chicago win the cup without Vermette? Does Tampa if they swap out Coleman/Goodrow for a Highmore caliber player?

The specific question to you would be: Would you rather have Cal Clutterbuck/Keagan Kolesar on your 4th line or Matthew Highmore?

The follow up question would then be: Does it matter who plays on your 4th line?

Hey, at least #6 Dmen, #12 forwards and backup goalies don't affect the game!

How does anyone (coaches and fans alike) watch Hamonic/Highmore/Forsberg and come to the conclusion they deserve to play a single minute in the NHL? How many goals against does it take?

It's inexcusable.

This loss was entirely on Green

Hamonic blows and everyone knows it besides him.

Same goes for his other former Canucks pets Gaudette and Highmore.

Also playing Forsberg after two days of rest for Ullmark was a complete own goal.

Replace Hamonic with Matinpalo, Forsberg with Ullmark/Merilainen and we don't lose that game. Simple as.
