How about his performance the last 4 periods without Muzzin? He hasn't been the greatest this season but now, without Rielly and Muzzin, it's his turn to shine in crunch time. He definitely has the tools to be a steady force for 20+ minutes a game. Has not seen a lot of PK time this year, but he did play the full two minutes on the lone penalty kill tonight

Keep it up!

Great the last couple games. The tools are all there to be a solid minute eating top 4 defenceman. Just needs to keep growing.

He was solid tonight.

He got slammed into the boards again.

seems like opposition teams like to tee him up for some reason

I thought he was excellent tonight. We need him now big time, tougher matchups and key contributor.

We're probably f***ed unless he can find his game again because of injuries. He's historically been very, very good, though, so I'm optimistic.

I thought he was great tonight. I still think he will be the odd man out next year unless they want to play him with Rielly but it’s great to see him step up and do well in a role even bigger than the one we’ve been waiting for him to takeover the last season or two.

It really does seem like he has been around for a while eh? But tonight was just his 152nd regular season game (+14 playoffs) so really only 2 seasons under his belt. Hopefully he sticks around because the next few years might be special

Seems like every game, he takes a dirry hit and theres rarely, if ever, a penalty called against. I cant think of another player like this. Dangerous hits too.
Good on him though, he always gets up, doesnt complain and he just keeps getting better in my opinion. Ive been a fsn since his first game against Van. I think he will really step it up this next month. Glad hes a leaf.

Ya he’s missed time with that shoulder injury. More accurately I should have said that most of us were hoping he’d look like a 2nd pair D this year and really hasn’t but this is a massive opportunity for him to prove himself. Tonight was a really good start.

is it just me or has dermott been getting hit high or from behind constantly this season.

it feels like every game he's on the floor from a questionable hit (with no call)

It's been like 5 times

past two games he’s embellished quite a bit. But yeah, he’s been getting run and been getting no calls. Probably stems back to the two games he went off on the refs

Why not pair him with Muzzin next year on a shutdown pair? He's got a higher ceiling then Holl, and really as much as I like Holl, he's not a top 4 dman on a contender.

That could be an option too if they think he’s capable of playing really tough usage on his offside. Regardless, if he’s staying he’s going to have to move to the right side.

Whose ur daddy??????????????? Way to go Dermy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Atta boy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep it up. They still play da game on the ice not on a spreadsheet.

Been pretty disappointed with him this year. He seemed so poised to take the next step, so it’s great to see him finally stepping it up. I’ve always loved him as a player. He’s got so many tools in the toolbox, including IQ which is where he’s seemed to struggle this year. I really hope we can find a way to fit him into the long term plans because he’s always struck me as the kind of guy who will blossom at 25-26 into a legit 2/3 kind of defender.

His biggest struggle in my eyes has been that he’s been trying to do too much. If he can really settle in and play his game with high confidence I think he can be a fantastic two way player.

I was honestly shocked at how he was out-muscling Barkov down low. Kid is deceptively strong.
I don't think it's deceptive, have you seen any of the pics from his instagram? I think his nhl.com player profile is about 10lbs lighter than reality, he's not tall but he's a tank
