Seriously other than Muzzin which dman scares any opponent ?? This team needs to replace Bogozian with a heavier, meaner Bogozian. Only way you can win with this cast of dmen is if you can keep the puck out of your end for most of the game and we know that isn't going to happen. Let's revisit in February when teams start to tighten up and play heavier.
I concur .. but CAP issues will likely prevent .. and Dubie's always pushing for smaller skilled players is a fallacy of current analytics which has yet to be unearthed .. Muzzy has started his decline this year I think .. I say I think cause Bogo/Brodie also took 5 or so games last year to get in proper game shape last year .. I hope I am wrong

Historically when it has worked to move a player back and forth between forward and defense it's because it's a player is both talented and highly intelligent. That player didn't always have to be a star level player either although that certainly didn't hurt. Here are some historical names off the top of my head: Mark Howe (star), Red Kelly (star), Sergei Fedorov (star), Sami Kapanen, Lou Nanne, Jimmy Roberts, Doug Mohns, Babe Pratt (star).

On this current team, 3 of the 4 star forwards could drop back and hold their own. Maybe Rielly could jump up and not embarrass himself. For a defenseman like Dermott, I think any random Marlies' forward would be better. Occasionally out of necessity with a roster short term roster issue a defenseman has to be moved up for a game or two.

you forgot brent burns ;)

he would have to completely retrain his hockey brain. The forwards he would be competing with have decade(s) of pattern recognition to help them with the most important part of NHL hockey which is decision making. Which is done in about a nanosecond at the NHL level. That's quite a hurdle to overcome and the biggest reason you almost never see this happen.

It has been done before, and quite successfully. Red Kelly and Wendel are two Leafs examples.

Not saying it should be done in this case, just that it can and your reasons for not doing it are not valid.

Before the Leafs consider trading Dermott or Holl to upgrade the forward position, I wonder if there’s any merit to trying out Dermott on LW on a part time basis?

It’s a classic zany change of position concept, but Dermott has a good skillset that doesn’t lead to any offense from the blueline and it would buy a little more evaluation time and flexibility before a final decision has to be made.
why, so he can flub a shot wide from the wing instead of flub the shot wide from the point?
