Which is fine. Sandin and Lily have outplayed both him and holl.
Naw neither have been better than Dermott

Dermott was really solid the past 3-4 games.

I don't get why he's getting benched for Holl

Sandin/Lilijgren got walked by Moore one of them should be out if you want Holl back in for a game

Rielly-Dermott played great the past few games and were good until the 3rd vs the Kings

Both have looked far better than dermott out there. Idc about a young 20 year old getting walked in his first 20 games in the nhl. Give me a break. There’s obviously going to be growing pains. I have no interest in holl ever playing another game for us fwiw.

I do have dermott ahead of holl on the depth chart. Holl sucks

Lilijgren and Sandin don't do anything far better than Dermott, not yet. Dermott is one of our best defensive players without the puck on his stick. Great at winning battles, and getting to a puck and moving it away from a forechecker. Also a great rush defender, especially on odd-man chances with his ability to dive and intercept passes. His offense unfortunately isn't there, despite being a strong skater and looking more aggressive

Lilijgren and Sandin both will pass Dermott most likely, but he's looked great with Rielly and should be playing 17-18 minutes a night with Rielly every night.

Rotate Sandin/Lilijgren/Holl on the bottom pair if you want, but give Dermott a shot to establish himself playing in a role he's shown promise in.

Rotating Dermott when he's finally gaining some confidence doesn't make sense. Give him a real shot and see what he's capable of accomplishing

Perhaps he's still hurting or re-aggravated something? I agree, he's not one who should be sitting.

100% prefer Sandin and Lily in the lineup over dermott despite their being worse defensively. Sandin for one is already our most dangerous and creative player on the backend.

Sandin is also our WORST defensive player with absolute WORST speed on entire team .. Ritchie makes Sandin look slow in a straight line race .. small defenders who can't skate never make it in pro hockey .. did you see how bad he got walked last night? .. a 3 step lead and positional strength and da King walked both Lily and then Sandin for a breakaway goal against .. a back breaker early in 1st period .. most of you people do not understand your hockey

Seriously other than Muzzin which dman scares any opponent ?? This team needs to replace Bogozian with a heavier, meaner Bogozian. Only way you can win with this cast of dmen is if you can keep the puck out of your end for most of the game and we know that isn't going to happen. Let's revisit in February when teams start to tighten up and play heavier.

Before the Leafs consider trading Dermott or Holl to upgrade the forward position, I wonder if there’s any merit to trying out Dermott on LW on a part time basis?

It’s a classic zany change of position concept, but Dermott has a good skillset that doesn’t lead to any offense from the blueline and it would buy a little more evaluation time and flexibility before a final decision has to be made.

Wendel Clark did it. A very rare shift indeed.

Do people know that Justin Holl actually played forward a fair bit in college?

If there is one guy who moves up front from the back end, it is likely going to be him.

Why the Leafs consider doing so when they have significantly more forward depth than defensive depth is beyond me.

How much worse really? Giveaways are way up and takeaways way down from when he a full time LD. Not sure the right side is the best use for him but maybe he is still finding his way.

I don’t get the hate for Dermott. He does just fine. He makes 1.5 million and can anchor a 3rd pair as good as anyone. I don’t get what people want to see from this guy. Isn’t it better if you don’t notice him?

If he could anchor anything, his name wouldn't be in trade talks.

What's his experience at forward prior to playing in the NHL, anything significant?

If there's nothing, I'd say the chances are slim to none. If it weren't the NHL it'd be a much greater possibility (but still a slim chance regardless).

Personally I think he'd be way worse at forward.

who says his name is in trade talks? it was reported they are shopping a right side defenseman. It is more than likely Holl, he's been healthy scratched for 4 straight games

I think he would be another Kerfoot. A guy who hustles and throws the body, but not big or strong enough to cause any real havoc, and with enough skill to pass as a decent winger but not able to create or finish much
