Same thing that was said about Stepan. He turned out fine as a top 6 center.Your agenda is showing again ;)

My agenda?

He’s a 7th overall pick. I want more than a Stepan who frankly would skate circles around Andersson. That’s how poor his skating is. And no improvement. That’s even more troubling.

Like you say; Lias looks like last year - he's kinda slow and his first strides are awful

I've never seen someone get so little burst in their first 3 strides. I think if he can figure out how to keep moving at ALL times he can get where he needs to, but if he's ever standing still he's a pylon.

Kid needs to start doing squats. A lot of them. I'm hoping it's really terrible technique, but you'd think they woulda spotted that by now.

To whoever said it, I see him as a winger. Can't be that slow off the jump as a center, too much ground to cover.

So last year he was just tired and I was a bigot against Swedes. This year it’s well he can maybe be Stepan if we’re lucky. A guy who busted his ass to improve his skating.

There’s no way he’s a center in the nhl skating like that. Not in this day and age.

Yeah I’m a bit surprised they didn’t have Lias working on skating a priority this summer

I guess he focused on bulking up (?) but his skating needs the most work out of his entire game

I’m also firmly in the camp of “he’ll be better at wing in the NHL” but that’s me

I'm too tired and lazy to look it up right now, but there was a quote from Lias at some point around break up day last season stating that his skating and his physical strength were the two areas that he intended to focus his training on for the summer.

I don't think that as of now, he is noticeably any quicker or less awkward in his strides, but it isn't as if it is being ignored.

3 Stars Howden Hajek Meskanen

Andersson looks like he did last year.

Ronning is not as close to being an nhler as his effort to tell the media makes us believe he is. He looks very overmatched unfortunately

Good bounce back from gettinger but I just don’t see it.

Not at all happy with Chytil right now.

Howden out playing both guys ahead of him.

Hajek looks like a stud. Better than he did in memorial cup. Looks like the guy from the WJCs. Big time prospect.

Lindgren May never make it rykov is better easily.

Meskanen looks like he’s a player. Very curious to see him during camp.

Lindqvist looks ok.

Fontaine solid again.

Keane I really like. Much better tonight

Brodeur way better game than Nell. Leave him out there for the next one. Nell is awful

Stuckel should get a camp invite

Lay off the booze. Rykov can't even play on his own team. Lindgren is fine. I can't believe the overreaction to this stupid, waste of time tournament. Most of the top prospects probably don't give a crap about this tournament. Their time to shine will either be in the pre-season or in their regular season leagues. You don't make the team because of this tournament and all these prospects know this.

Lindgren, Chytil and Andersson played against men last year. It's insulting they are even playing in this waste of a tournament. I would have zero interest playing in it if I was them. As far as Andersson's skating, it is fine and much better already than Stepan. That based off what I saw in his NHL debut but I'm not a scout. I doubt there is any motivation for those 3 players to be in Traverse. Lindgren did nothing but impress in his brief time in the NHL. Same with Andersson and Chytil. Yet, we have fans here that constantly make up idiotic nonsense about them. Give the rest of us a break. You aren't scouts. I'm quite sure our scouts didn't draft a player 7th overall who can't skate.

Lindgren never played in NHL.

That’s fair

I wouldn't say Lias is already a "much" better skater than Stepan, but I think the skating narrative is rather overblown. Also, if there's one player I don't think we have to worry about being motivated, it's Lias

Clearly it's the 70 game sample that must be misguided and not your 2 game evaluation of him.

You have a point, however the list of overagers who lit up juniors and ended up ECHL-AHL tweeners is long.

There's a reason why after a 60 goal season he still didn't get voted into our top 10.

Nice to hear Howden and Hajek have been doing well. I think both will play in the AHL this year. Every year the fans talk about off the radar younger players making the roster, and it almost never happens. Chytil did, but he was a first round pick, and he only played a couple of games, anyway. Let them play in the AHL this year. The team is in no rush. It would be dumb to put them in a position where they play minimal minutes or sit in the press box.

I don't know what people here expect with Andersson. He's not going to be a top line guy. Could be a second line guy more than a third line guy. Improving his skating will help, but its often hard to really distinguish that until the player plays in the NHL and we can see how they stack up against the best. I still would like to see Andersson and Chytil both make the team this year in a top 9 role. I do agree with what was stated above by someone that Andersson might be more of a winger. I'd start Andersson on a wing with Hayes, and I'd play Chytil at center with Zuccarello. Put Spooner and Namestnikov on the unoccupied wing of those two lines, and there's your top nine.

It'll be interesting to see how Lindgren does this season in the AHL. It doesn't seem like there's consensus that he's more than a low-level NHL'er. If he will be that, he should be able to have a good season in the AHL.

i agree that they will be in the AHL for most of the year but I wouldn't call howden and hajek 'off the radar' either. howden is the #3 prospect forward playing in ny/hartford and hajek is the #1 d prospect. the idea of them making the team or earning an early callup isn't crazy at all.

I expect that both Howden and Hajek will play more than a handful of NHL games this season. There's no ELC restriction like we saw with Chytil last year. They could both hit ~40 games with the big squad.

the head in the sand stuff with Lias' skating is bizarre. like, it's right in front of you. bringing it up isn't going to make it worse, idg the "he's fine, stop talking about it" stuff like he's an alcoholic relative

to whoever said it, Stepan would dust him.

I think we'll see the "prospects" get some games after the trade deadline, outside of Chytil and Andersson who will probably make the NHL team.

I think it'll be similar to what we saw last season.
