Smith, Staal, DeAngelo... these 3 better be on their game. I have a feeling they'll be competing for the final 2 spots. Hajek is coming.

Good:
Howden super high IQ, good straight line speed and strength, great game.
Lias positions very well has the same terrible acceleration he had last year.
Chytil didn't seem engaged other than a few rushes but is obv very talented.
Hajek looked really good after a slow start.

Bad:
Gettinger can't skate.
Day looks like he can only do one thing at a time and ignores any warning signs he shouldn't do the thing he decided to do.
Keane-Other Guy completely out of sync.

Team overall put ~zero pressure on the points and collapsed to the faceoff dots continually. Seemed to have pretty good offensive zone support for each other and nonexistent defensive zone support.
Who's coaching this?

7-5 final. Oh well, no biggy. Was pretty dominant in the 1st two periods.

Nell was looking really sharp until the 3rd period. Sucked in the 3rd though.

Player of the game, IMO, was Hajek. He was everywhere on the ice making solid plays. Looked really good. HM’s are Andersson, Chytil, Howden. All three looked solid & made nice plays. Intriguing prospects were the two Free Agents; Lindqvist & Meskanen. Both showed flashes of speed & offense. FA invite, Stukel, also showed some offensive ability.

Day, Ronning & Gettinger need to do better....

Looking forward to tomorrow!!

I forgot to mention Meskanen. He looked pretty solid. I watched him a lot when he didn't have the puck (in the O zone) and he seemed to always find the open areas. Solid shot... nice goal and almost another one. Lindqvist had some nice offensive moments but I noticed he gets knocked off the puck pretty easily and not very good in board battles.

I'd like to see Hajek and Keane together. Split them to PP1 and PP2, but 5 on 5 I'd like to see them work.

Lindgren and Keane looked out of sync and I think Hajek was with Crawley most of the time 5 on 5.

All of the people calling people out for "freaking out" and "overreacting", what are you talking about? Are people not allowed to give a negative review after a sloppy loss in a tournament we apparently sent a stacked team to? How is that an overaction and not just an honest assessment?
Because they're sending what they think is a stacked team too. And it's 2 days of practice and 1st game of a meaningless tournament. You look for individual moments, assess how players react to certain situation. You're welcome to give your negative views but people acting like "here we go again" shit is dumb. Some are joking. Others are seriously thinking this is a travesty.

Relax. It's not even the pre-season yet.

If what Gorton said about who makes the team this season, Staal won't be a common sight on the ice if Hajek keeps improving.

the safe spaces are real xD

It's exciting. Maybe not Quinn Hughes in the summer showcase, but there were times where he just dominated. Beginning of the 3rd period... I think 1st shift... NY had sustained pressure in the O zone for a while and it was all Hajek. Skated around someone with the puck... took a shot... rebound came out, he gets it, gets around a guy... takes a shot... puck kicks around and gets knocked in the air over towards the corner... he's the first on it, comes base line and tries a power move stuff in at the net, then gets back out to position as players are battling for a loose puck.

Dude was solid.

People are allowed to give whatever ridiculous reaction they want. You won't hear me question their right to do so.

It's a prospect tournament before training camp. These guys have played with each other a teaspoon worth. When the Rangers won this tournament, it was fun, it was exciting. It wasn't very meaningful though. I get it, it's been a long summer, but some perspective is nice.

One very early observation I have about some of our guys is that the front office should make a priority on getting Barb Underhill or someone like her in here to work on their skating

Outside of that, no real hot takes
