Cool thing is how he sold the goalie on the short side attempt before heading back around the net for the wraparound. Without that little fake, the goalie maybe is able to get over to his far post, but the goalie bit on Kakko's fake and was down and unable to get back to his post
But even more than that, the fact he circled the net twice gaining speed, he knew there was no way the goalie would beat him to the other side.

End of Game. Rangers win 4-3 in OT so no championship game, but will be in the 3rd place game tomorrow.

Incredible finish for a team that stunk the first 2 periods. Fox, Kakko & Kravtsov all took the game on their sticks at the end which is a beautiful thing. Shesterkin had a better game this time around, however still would’ve wanted a little better of a showing. Think he faced 20 shots (can someone fact check that). Other good games go to Reunanen, Jones, Henriksson & Newell. Dmowski & Robertson were okay, but weren't bad in any sense. Everyone else sucked, so we’ll see where they’ll end up in training camp.

Sucks for LZG to get a bull**** hit to the head. Hope he’s alright. He’s looked good in the tourney so far.

All in all, sloppy game that turned out better as time went by!!

Tough for LZG, but there are at least some hope nowadays because you basically don’t have to have any symptoms, after a hit like that you are pulled no matter what. So could still be that he is fine.

I kinda believe Kakko knew he was gonna score. With him circling the net twice, he gained so much speed , he knew the goalie couldn't get to the otherside of the post before him.

He pulled the goalie out of position to the far post before going for the wraparound he had it planned out. Quick deke in close, Jones but and slid to his left which made getting back to the right post impossible.

Panarin is like one of the best controlled zone entry players in the league if not the best.

He doesn’t need any help in that regard. I imagine Kravstov won’t be too far behind.

yeah, not as worried about zone entry. But I am worried about getting them the puck at the top of our D-zone or in the neutral zone. Could see us getting hemmed in a bunch and also giving up lots of odd-man rushes.

But good to see a guy like Kakko just putting the game on his shoulders. Impressive.

He kinda was though, and this comes from someone who's watched all his games for the last year and a half.

:)

When he got the puck on his stick in the offensive zone he was good, but the team as a whole had a lot of trouble gaining the zone with possession which isn't really all on Kakko. for playing his first game back from illness on a "team" that's a bunch of prospects and invites thrown together and playing another team that was surprisingly discplined for a prospect tournament, he was fine. He displayed some flashes throughout the game until he got a chance to really spend some tiem with the puck on his stick and then he made it clear why he was drafted so high

Yes. I know of all the reasons that might've affected his game.

Dunno why you're trying to convince me that Kakko isn't a terrible player, as if that's what I think.

I feel like the Rangers are cheating by playing Adam Fox. I haven’t seen a ton of him but he has not looked like a prospect to me now or at the Worlds.

He was a man among boys in College, so not surprising. I don't recall ever seeing anyone have a season like he had. Even Makar, one of the better D prospects in recent memory, did not put as many points as Fox did.

I think he's in line for a 40-50 point season. I know that's lofty expectations, but that isn't out of the realm of possibility when it comes to highly touted offensive D. Heck, Skjei somehow managed 39 and Fox has more offensive instincts in his pinky

The word that comes to mind when I watch Fox is “savvy.” Also “WHAT DOES THE FOX SAY,” but “savvy” first.

How many damn points for Kravtsov this tournament?

Many others have commented on it, but compared to previous years (i.e. excluding Fox), Reunanen has been better this tournament than any D I’ve seen in a long time playing for us.

We joke about Tim Erixon, but he was a 21 y/o D fresh from being a top D in the SHL and playing in the WCH for Sweden — and after Traverse he went on to have 33 pts in 52 games in the AHL. He didn’t have what it takes for the NHL, so few teams have openings at LD and he never got that break. Have been used plenty at RD and it’s just too much of a handicap. Anyway, Erixon was a man among boys at Traverse kind of like Fox. It’s a long time ago.

Reunanen has handled himself so well. Will be exciting to follow him the coming years. The kid just executes, and is so agile and coordinated. Good skills.

That really is going to come down to PP time. That's partly how Skjei got that number, that's how Pionk got half of his last year.

So it really is a matter of A) Who forward lines Fox sees the most shifts with and B) If he is able to get ample PP time despite having DeAngelo and Trouba there on the right side ahead of him.

And of course he has to make the NHL out of camp, but I'm increasingly optimistic about the odds that he does that.

I just don't really agree with your assessment, that's all.

I don't expect players, no matter how good they are or what the circumstances, to always dominate every shift

I believe that I heard he leads the tournament in points

Fox is a bit heavy built. It’s become a joke in English that some pro soccer players describe themselves as “I am just a fat kid from ....”. If you have thick bones you have thick bones, can’t diet down all the way. Fox doesn’t have blazing speed thanks to it.

But, damn I never realized just how explosive he is in thight areas. When he sets off sideways or back/forth a few steps, he just flies out there. It’s kinda subtle and when you don’t see it things just looks easy for him, but he buys himself a lot of valuable time with that edgework and first step.
