Unbelievable. That guy needs to drink some damn milk.

- I heard that the general manager, Jim Rutherford, said somewhere that I wouldn't be going to the AHL, that it'd be better if I went home to Sweden. But we'll see. If I like it over there it might not be that bad to be sent down. If I feel I want to stay and fight for a spot AHL isn't a bad option. Of course, neither is Brynäs, says Lindholm.

Pretty cool to see him say this. Regardless where he ends up, it's nice to see him showing an open mind toward life in NC and an interest in being part of the organization at more than one level.

And just to throw a little gas on the coals of the Tlusty bit, maybe this is another sign the super physical training camp was a bad idea?

We're starting the season with a lot of players out, and it's hard not to attribute at least part of that to Muller encouraging a really physical camp, and letting guys trying to secure a spot in the NHL hurt star players. Tough is great, but you have to be smart about it.

yeah, in retrospect it seems pretty silly to be having your star players hurt in camp that way (doesn't seem very smart). they run a big risk in exhibition games as it is but, you would hope that Muller and the rest of them know what the hell they're doing.

A lot of older/not even that old Finns across the league are seriously injured and have their careers in jeopardy (Joni) or retired (Lydman). I'm starting to get the feeling Teemu is just sucking the careers out of his countryman telepathically to continue his own career.

But most of these guys haven't been hurt in the training camp. Lindholm was dealing with his injury before training camp started. Gleason and Ruutu were hurt in the 2nd Montreal game, and by all accounts, it appears like Semin was hurt in the game in Quebec? (not 100% sure, but he played in that game but was suddenly scratched the next night).

Not sure how Muller having them be less physical in training camp would help any of those guys who got hurt in pre-season games.

Predicting Ruutu and Pitkanen (who I was told I was harping on when I brought up his injuries) are going to miss time for injury is like predicting the sun will come up.

Feel free to retread the signing topic. The idea that Ruutu would miss significant time during this contract was considered a little out there, because he had been (relatively) healthy up to that point.

Fair point and I trust you on that..was just joking.

I don't feel like going back and reading it, but IIRC, I had it backwards. I thought he'd be healthy for the first couple of years, but that out years (year 3 and 4) would be a risk due to his age, injury history and style of play.

Looks like Lindholm is Ruutu 2.0. We should have drafted Nich.

Hahaha wow. By that logic this should make perfect sense then. Gerbe has 3 goals in 6 games. 40 goal pace=Theo Fleury 2.0, sign him long term, pronto!

Don't even bother with this discussion. Even if Nichushkin is in the AHL five years from now he'll be a better pick to the grit police because he's bigger. The fact that people are declaring Lindholm injury prone after one injury says all about their mindset.

Until proven wrong, I am standing by my statement.

9 other gms passed on nichuskin, most scouting services had lindholm ranked higher, other teams tried to trade up to get lindholm, yet lindholm is trash in the one month he's been in country?

love that logic of yours...

Since the discussion has turned back to who we should have drafted, I was wondering if anyone else saw NHL 2013 Draft: The South Is On The Clock on the NHL Network? If you didn't, try to - it goes behind the scenes with Colorado, Florida, Tampa, Nashville AND Carolina. Not only do you get sound bites from JR and Ron Francis, but you see JR trying to make a move. You see JR on the phone with a team (?) - he then says they've changed their mind and will only move down to #4, not #5. He's also seen talking on the phone with the teams at #7 and #23. Then you see JR at the draft table - he says it looks like we're picking, looks in his notebook, and turns to Tony MacDonald and says it looks like you're going to get your wish - then Ron Francis announces the selection of Lindholm.

Not trash. But not an impact now player which we needed during this draft.

That's not how hockey works. This isn't the NFL or NBA where draft picks make huge contributions out of the gate. These guys are 18 years old. There might be 3 guys in each draft class that do diddly
dick in their 18 y/o season.

He's determined that Nichushkin is an impact player now due to his preseason.

Does this mean Gerbe, whom bluedevil58 reacted to the signing of with "Terrible. Shoot me now please" (direct quote) is also an impact player?

I will concede that I was wrong about Gerbe. But you cannot ignore the fact that an impact now power forward was available at #5 and we did not pick him.
