Not really since Wallstedt is on an ELC so unless they are shorting the roster, the replacement D or F they carry instead is going to cost roughly the same. They will probably play some up and down shenanigans at the start of the season, but once the first road trip is over they should have accrued enough space for it not to matter much at all.

Pretty sure they have to actually travel and be technically available to the AHL team, they are also not able to participate in NHL team activities when they are sent down. Per Guerin's interview during the last pre-season game, they plan to play him a lot this season, probably in both leagues.

The Wild have a quick two game homestand to start the season, then go on a very long road trip. I would think its likely that they send him down to IA for the first two games then call him up for the road trip and bonding.
