They still need to be in hockey shape for training camp, so I’m not too sure that they agree with your pov, since you don’t think they should be doing captains skates.

Both of them are on the ice.
I agree, getting in shape is never a bad thing. If you’re going to overdo it sure there are consequences, but these are pro athletes.
I find it hard to believe that the training they do this month has any bearing come playoff time.

Thanks for sharing. Excited by the Salmelainen hire with multi-aspect experience as a player, agent and manager. Bulking up with qualified eyeballs in Europe is critical to find the hidden gem pipeline this organization will need.

Jackson delivering on his day 1 promise to build up, formalize and professionalize the development function that's been a primary issue for a long time. I love that they are bringing an in-house mental specialist to commit to this critical, unseen aspect of talent assessment which is often a defining reason players make or don't make the final step to NHL level performance.

Looked at Malt's business website which sounds interesting in terms of experience and his approach to mental skill training and development:

We saw Jackson's commitment to mental skills performance, skills development, coping and resiliency with his cold call hire of George Mumford. Now he incorporates this incredibly important function into the front-end development function.

Was a guy I was interested to see at camp and maybe in Bako. Can't fault him going the schooling route. This camp invite is a good way to show and engage team interest with a pro future still a viable possibility.
Can he not still go to Bakersfield? Doesn't seem like he's too interested in schooling right now as he wouldn't be here if he did lol.

Lol Davo throwing shade at pcl is hilarious.

He's one of us.
What's so funny though is that even with all the construction it only take half an hour to drive from the outskirts to Downtown in rush hour. I've heard in places such as Toronto it takes two hours to get downtown from the outskirts

I guess he could still this year. Sounds pretty committed to the Bears mentioning their late August trip to Ireland. Think the spring amateur try-out in Bako was maybe an assessment of his option with school in mind as well. A young player. Big minutes in a solid college program would still be a decent growth opportunity with maybe pro option in a year.

EDIT: Might be hedging too if even making Bako this year might be in doubt with fringe NHL/AHL depth added at the position. Might have been reading the tea leaves that starting point could be in the ECHL.

He was interviewed yesterday on one of the local sports radio shows and seems pretty excited about the Bears. His camp invite is as BEL states, a way to keep him engaged with the Oilers after his season with the Oil Kings. There are a few college kids who get invites to pro camps who don’t intend on turning pro but taking in the experience, adding to the resume and liasing with the pro team which invited him.

Sounds like Nurse is injured since the playoffs, and likely not ready to start the year based on Oilers Fanatic youtube channel.

If this turns out to be the case, I'd be relieved to hear Nurse was playing injured this past playoffs

This isn't new news. He took a puck off the ankle, remember? A puck he happened to give away and resulted in a goal against. I believe it was against Vancouver- where the puck went off his ankle to a canuck. Unless it is a different injury.

Unfortunately that likely affected his off ice training this summer, so hes behind the eight ball from the get go. Not what we were hoping to hear.
