If they win, I’ll happily STFU and stow the criticism about management. Hell, if they just look like a team with an identity by the end of the calendar year, I’ll consider the season an unqualified success.

For as much as I doubt Blake, I can see the logic behind his offseason moves. And I’m bullish on our prospects, you can’t deny how deep we are with premium players around 20 years old. So the cautious optimism being displayed by the org and their media mouthpieces makes a ton of sense and is not misplaced.

Last game against SJ was a real bright point. Our kids storming a bunch of vets is manna from heaven for fans. I also like seeing Tkachev getting an opportunity to cement a position in the top six. Where the rubber meets the road is Fagemo vs Brown for one of Kopitar’s wings.

If Fagemo continues to stand out and Brown doesn’t, I’ll be watching Todd’s handling of the lines as we head to opening night. Will he have enough standing to put Brown on the fourth line. Or does he shuffle the bottom nine to accommodate a vet.

Kings PR can try to talk systems and talent, but they won’t be able to ignore identity and deployment once the season starts.

Fagemo was already placed in that group B for practice yesterday. It was already unlikely he was going to make it before camp started. He's not making the team.

I'm not sure uts fair to create an unrealistic expectation based on your own want, and then hold anyone on the team accountable if it doesn't happen. Maybe if Arvidsson and AA hadn't been acquired and re-signed. Maybe if one of the thousand bottom line wingers had been selected by Seattle.

I hope you are right kind sir.

I know that we historically blow chunks against Vegas, Minny, and Mtl.

I remember the Peg giving us fits and St Louis is no joke either

I think Montreal stumbles out of the gate. They're not nearly as good as the playoffs showed and no Weber or Danault won't help. Can't imagine trying to replace the lockroom chemistry of Danault and Weber with Mike f***ing Hoffman.

Unrealistic is Brandt Clarke making the team out of camp. Expecting Fagemo to beat the competition and earn a spot on the top line is based on actual performance to date. Playing the maybe game is a weaker line of argument than straw men.

Byfield, Fagemo, Turcotte, Kupari, and Kaliyev

Its not enough to prove that you're good enough to make the NHL roster, they have to show they deserve the chance over the other 4.

Kupari's the most seasoned
Byfield the 2nd overall pick
Fagemo appears to be the early camp standout

There's probably a spot for one of them on the roster, but Kaliyev could pot 2 tonight/tomorrow and suddenly he's the leading candidate.

But I do think one of them has to be in the lineup. Wagner/Lizotte/Lemieux/Andersson/Grundstrom/AA et. al. have experience, McClellan is comfortable having them in every night. We have to build that with the other guys before we start jettisoning the 'replaceable' players . We have to get one of those prospects up to 20/25 games so that its easier to work in the next one, and then the next one. If all 5 of them start in Ontario, it pushes all of their arrivals back.

I expect very few young guys to stick from this camp.

Remember Voynov didn't make the team out of the gate either, even though he obviously deserved it. If the team thinks a waiver-exempt player is ready, they aren't going to waive or trade someone else when values are low. For example if the brass are sold on Fagemo, look for them to move a vet after a month or so to make a permanent spot for him then. This goes for pretty much any young player, a month or two more in the A isn't going to hurt them. A team wouldn't pay crap for a guy like Wagner right now because players will be getting waived left and right before the season. Things will change around mid-November, when teams have injuries and/or want to make changes.

Kupari is the most ready and paid his due. Besides a shootout goal Turcotte hasn't really blown me away. The others are invisible.

Just like everyone says, these kids need time - some of them are 19 and 20.

How has Turcotte looked during the camp and preseason games? Will he make the lineup?

He's looked fantastic and the coaching staff can't stop raving about him but I doubt he makes it to start the year--if he's not playing in the top six he's probably better served playing in Ontario to keep developing offensively

I think he's looked great too, but he probably should start the year in Ontario. A lot of the kids should to be honest. The only one right now that I think has forced the issue is Fagemo. I'm not sold on Tkachev, but I also think it might take more than a handful of preseason games to prove that you deserve a shot given his success in the KHL.

If I was Todd, this is my lineup to start the season:

Fagemo - Kopitar - Arvidsson
Iafallo - Danault - Tkachev
Kempe - Vilardi - Brown
Andersson - JAD - Moore
Lizotte, Lemieux

Anderson - Doughty
Bjornfot - Roy
Edler - Walker
Clague

Petersen
Quick

Place Wagner, Grundstrom, Maatta, Wolanin, Tynan, Burke, Strand, Moverare, and Sparks on waivers and hope they all make it through. If they don't, they don't. Probably the only guys to be worried about there are Grundstrom, Wagner, and Wolanin. If we could find someone to take Maatta, that'd be great too. I wouldn't even really be upset if Maatta stayed and Clague got waived/plucked off waivers. Clague's just not that good and we have guys in our system that are so much better.

Yes, that means guys like Byfield, Turcotte, Kupari, Kaliyev, Madden, Clague, Grans, Durzi, and Spence all start the year in Ontario. Seems like a really good problem to have.

Turcotte - Byfield - Kaliyev
Madden - Kupari - Thomas

Clague - Durzi
Grans - Spence

The one obvious omission here is Athanasiou... I like him, but I have serious Kovalchuk vibes from him. He's definitely good, I just don't see where he fits or who he fits with. Maybe he slots in where Tkachev is? I don't know.

I'm as hard on TM as anyone but I'm willing to give him and everyone else the first 20 games to show us a new look. ANYTHING but the 1-3-1 is progress to the eyes

Expect more 1-3-1 BABY. The oafish panda has shown no signs of changing. Strap in, it's gonna be wild.

Minor thing. But that third line gets rolled and couldn’t hold possession for more than 10 seconds. It would need moore for either Kempe or Brown.

I think so too, but because I want him getting offensive responsibility and top six minutes.

All the indications and interviews as recently as today say directly they're going away from it. However, we'll see if they collapse into it like they did before...

T minus 30 to puck drop bitches. Just under 15 minutes on the clock for the east coast game. With some luck, the Bruins hold on to their lead and the shootout ends quick.

Didn't know Nolan Bust Patrick is on Knights now. Let's go get thing thing started already.
was surprised to see that too, start of the season always gives me a laugh cause there's 20 guys like that who moved without me knowing
