IMO Drai and Connor in the past have played "catch" too much on the PP, just passing it back and forth. If both are more willing to shoot then that would work.

Drai seems to be happy to be the shooter when he's in the Crosby spot on the PP. The issue is that with McDavid in the Malkin spot, all the attention by the PKers is funneled to that right side. The Pens combat this with having Kessel on the left wall, stretching the PK to all areas. We really need that right shot threat to open up the ice for Drai and McDavid. Have they even tried Bouchard there?
Would love to see

And then have RNH run PP2

I hope they at least try rotating Yam and Pulj at some point during the game. It's not so much that I think Puljujarvi needs a bigger role, it would just be great to see if he has any chemistry with Draisaitl, because ultimately the success of the 3rd line doesn't mean a whole lot if the 2nd line is anemic

You're right, they should rotate but I personally hope that Lucic, Drai and Yamamoto click really well because McDavid/Rattie and Puljujarvi/Strome have looked very good.

Rieder/Rattie? Does that mean that one of them could be scratched?

With Rattie a bit banged up, I'm sure Reider is still making line rushes on the top line. Rattie will likely sit the next game and Reider will play in his spot so that Rattie is good for the season opener. No way would Mclellan do that to Reider.

bear in mind that Garrison or Jerabek didn't have to replace Sekera.

The plan could be to have a player like Russell or Benning replace Sekera, and then those UFA adds just had to replace Russell/Benning, who would have been on the bottom pairing.

I know that it still doesn't replace Sekera, but it's not quite as bad. Also know that there is cost. For instance, a lot of this board wants Faulk from Carolina, but for all we know they are demanding RNH and that's it. With Sekera going down midway into August, it's not like there would be options sprouting all over.

But to just go full circle, I don't think that Chiarelli did enough. His desire for an OFD was deflated when we drafted Bouchard, and that probably doesn't help us this upcoming season a whole lot.

I don't disagree but I was just contesting Dnicks point that Chia deserves some credit for dealing with Sekera's injury. This would be akin to MacT signing Nikitin to replace a Petry injury (without the gross extra year on the contract).

If we look at the defense now compared to when Sekera went down (or the D that failed miserably last season), the only difference is a rookie who pushed his way into the top 6 (partially out of necessity, partially on merit). It's just not good enough to compete for anything meaningful this season unless we see some big internal growth. I like the looks of it long term but short term it's an issue, an issue that wasn't addressed this offseason IMO so I have a hard time giving Chia any credit for addressing it.

Well said.

And if both Bear and Bouchard start in the lineup... Hoo boy.

Oilers-Wahnsinn in Köln: Ein Edmonton-Star verdient soviel, wie im Haie-Etat stecken

If you guys translate this page, it has lots of interesting info about the preparation of the game in Cologne from the ice guru entrusted by the NHL for multiple out door events going there to prepare the ice to McDavid making as much as the entire Cologne Sharks team budget combined.

Extremely excited to see this game.
Is it gonna be carried on center ice, or streamed?
Also, how bad is Larsson hurt? I hear a strained back but that aint good

Definitely looks like Bear and Bouchard are competing for the same spot right now. Garrison is the spare part. If Bouchard sticks, Bear goes to Bakersfield. If Bear sticks, Bouchard goes to London. The experiment will probably go on for 15 schedule games.

The Devils game vs SC Bern will be played on every SN channel today at 11:30am Mountain time and the Oilers game Vs the Cologne sharks will be on every SN channel on at 8am MT on wednesday so you would not need center ice.

Larsson apparently won't play in germany but will be good to go for the game in sweden.

Good to hear. If we lose Larsson, we r doomed. He has the ability to make the other dman who he plays with turn into a quality defender. He did it with Klefbom as well as Nurse. Did he also get MVP for a defenceman in World Cup?

our coaching staff is very stubborn about all Lefties in one unit and all righties on other. go figure
its how the best PPs in the league are set up. it is the new method of attack when you have connor mcdavid on the ice you have to play him tight which means 4-3 someone has to get open and set up the shot selection.

I believe he was the MVP in the worlds this year i think? im not 100% sure.
But yeah, losing him and Sekera would be game over for us.

They got an asset for a player who didn't make their team and didn't cost them anything. Actually it's good, because Jerabek literally have no value to the organization.
Yes I agree you, I guess the way I typed it made it seem like i was mocking it.
Probably lucky to get a 6th for him. I wonder if they are up to something?
Signing Garrison? What I do know is that we have an extra 5.5 mill to play with when Sekera gets put on the LTIR. Getting a 6th for someone not making the team is great though.
