I keep hoping to see
Nuge Mcdavid Rattie
Reider Drai Pulj
Lucic Strome Yam
Khaira Brodz Chaison
Cags\Kass
Aberg AHL 1st call

Klef Lars
Nurse Benning
Russel Bouchard
Garrisons Signed

Jerabek AHL 1st call LD
Bear AHL 1st call RD

I think based on McLellan’s comments after the game and Chia’s comments yesterday our forwards will look like this for game 1:

RNH-McDavid-Rattie
Lucic-Draisaitl-Puljujarvi
Khaira-Strome-Yamamoto
Rieder-Brodziak-Kassian
Caggiula, Chiasson

Aberg waived

Defence

Klef-Lars
Nurse-Bouchard
Russell-Benning
Garrison

Jerabek waived

Bear to AHL, Bouchard gets a 9 game look. Benning looking like stale vomit today gets him bumped down.

Part of the problem is that even if Lucic does rise to the occassion, I still don't thin that he and Draisaitl are a good fit. They haven't seemed to work together at any point other than like.... 2 games in the playoffs.

Honestly, Lucic has played his best hockey with Nuge. But Nuge is locked into the 1LW spot so that isn't an option right now.

They should play Lucic with Brodziak. I have a hunch that it’s the perfect spot for him.

Drai needs to be at C. That's how this team is successful going forward. He's not an aging player losing his abilities, he's got a big contract, he can figure it out.

Brodziak is a 4C. Asking more of him also is a recipe for disaster. Yama shouldn't be on a 4th line either.

I wouldn't look at that line like a true 4th line. I would give those bottom two lines equal playing time, just Brodziak's line takes the tougher matchups and defensive zone draws. Lets say there roughly 45 minutes of ES time in a game. Id give the Mcdavid line 15 of those minutes with the other 3 lines each getting 10 minutes. I was very impressed with the chemistry shown between Cagguila-Khaira-Yamamoto. It was probably our 2nd best line of the preseason after the Mcdavid line.

Edit: Also if Draisaitl needs to be a center then Strome should be on the wing. Khaira has been a beast this preseason and looked great at center today. Better then Strome for sure.

Doesn't have to worry about f***ing up passes from Drai/Yammo and just puts his head down and bangs hard. If he actually is a team player he'd be all for what helps the team win.

McClellan loves his duos.

Nuge-McDavid
Strome-Puljujarvi
And I'd postulate
Draisaitl-Yamamoto

Which gives you a lineup of
Nuge-McDavid-Rattie
Lucic
-Draisaitl-Yams
Khaira-Strome-Puljujarvi
Rieder-Brodziak-Cags
Kassian (or traded), Chiasson

Does anyone know Khaira's faceoff% for today?

Edit: NVM found it 30% so not great but just behind Draisaitl's 33%. Surprised Mcdavid was 58% and Brodziak 62%.

I dont understand why everyone keeps going back to Yamamoto and Draisaitl when they havent looked good together.

In fairness, no one has looked good with Drai in this pre-season. All waiting on Drai to wake up before we can make some judgement about chemistry being there or not.

I think on paper, before any games began, it just made sense. We all knew that Rattie had the inside track to stay on the top line. We all knew that JP would likely continue on the 3rd where he finished last season with some success. Drai's wingers have always been in doubt, and it just seems like fate that Yamamoto would slide in right there perfectly. Maybe eventually this will be the case. Personally, I do think Puljujarvi is the superior talent, but he's got to figure himself out first

I think they're trying to force drai to work with yam and Lucic because all the other lines are doing so well that any movement could make things worse for everyone.

That said, I think Reider drai yam would be a good second line if they keep him up. Drais good along the boards, Yamamoto seems to always be crashing the net, and Reider is quick enough to get to the open pucks

Nuge Mcdavid rattie
Reider drai yam
Khaira Strome JP
Lucic Brodziak whoever

If it doesn't work, send yam down to blow away the AHL, promote JP (I have a feeling he'd play well with drai this year) and call up someone to warm the bench or who would be good in the bottom 6.

I agree, Brodziak is a good player, no shame playing on that line.

Lucic-Brodziak-Kassian

Could be a good crash and bang if Kassian gets going... (And Lucic I guess too)

FO% really needs a quality of competition metric. A face off win against Bergeron should count more than a win against some winger. Not a specific observation about this game's FO% but a general one.

Haha!! Looch isn’t going to the fourth line any time soon.

Atta boy. Good character guy to have down there, I like it.

I hear you.
It really shouldn't matter to me as much as it does but I really want him to make this team. I think his presence alone will be a major add to this team.

I am pulling for him.

The way their giving Upshall so many chances to make the team, while we already have like 4 guys fighting for the last couple of spots is confusing. I understand he's a great character guy, but you're kind of stuck with cagguila, aberg and kassian on the fourth line and an extra, yet may be signing chiasson and upshall? I'd hate to see yam go down because cagguila or kassian force someone to play up the lineup.

as it sits now we have rnh mcdavid rattie drai yam lucic as our top 6, khaira strome jp brodziak kassian cagguila and aberg as the bottom 6 plus extra. Meanwhile, we're giving upshall every opportunity to make the team, and Chiasson has outplayed anybody not named brodziak for a spot on the fourth line.

I really hope they have something lined up involving kass, cagguila or aberg, otherwise I see no point to these ptos still being around.

I think they have a few things lined up waiting for the beginning of the season so they can put Sekera on LTIR.

Probably a contract with Chiasson.

Maybe a trade for another d-man.

Something has to give. So I am assuming that the date would be Oct 3rd...the beginning of the NHL season as opposed to the beginning of the Oilers season (Oct 6th).

Yeah, I'm thinking Oct 3 as well. We'll see.

I am surprised that there wasn't an announcement on cuts today.

Weren't they supposed to be down to 24 players prior to the Europe trip?

They're at 25 with Chiasson...so take that for it's worth.
