What do Domi, Kampf, Jarnkrok, Reaves, McMann, Dewar, and Knies have in common with Nylander?

Their salaries all add up to what he makes. Let that one sink in for a moment.

Wow a bunch of mostly replaceable players, three of which should have already been dumped for cap purposes, add up to a star. I’ve let it sink in, your takes are terrible.

Do any more moves need to be made to comply with roster spots or are we just gonna go forward with whoever hasn't been waived or sent down at this point?

They need to if they plan on signing Pacioretty and Lorentz.

I could be wrong but the last few seasons I hear about all this depth we have but by season ends it turns out the depth we thought we had wasn’t good.
Foolishly spending over 1/2 your entire cap only 4 forwards unlike any other team, and your depth will obviously be weaker than ALL other teams right from the start.

That is just simple math. :wg:

While Leafs are forced to spending $1 mil to $2.5 mil on so call "Depth" other teams can afford to pay $3-$5 mil due to better cap management, and not top heavy overspending on so few.

I guess that core four is really, really good then. Is that your point? If we are obviously weaker than ALL other teams from the start then why do we finish ahead of almost every other team every year?

Ignore line combos

Domi - Matthews - Marner
Knies - Tavares - Nylander
Patches - Holmberg - Robertson
Lorentz - Kampf - McMann
Reaves

Rielly - Tanev
OEL - McCabe
Benoit - Liljegren
Myers - Timmins

Woll
Stolarz

Full roster, Dewar on IR, Hakanpaa, Jarnkrok on LTIR, Minten SOIR. Cowen down. I don't think there's anyone else they have to do anything with. I think that's it with 1 dollar to spare

I would like to see Nylander center the second line, Tavares the third
Domi - Matthews - Marner
Knies - Nylander - Robertson
Patches - Tavares - McMann/Holmberg
Lorentz - Kampf - Holmberg/Reaves

I see more balance in a line up looking like this. Especially on that third line. We all know Tavares is slow, having a sniper in Patches and a power forward/puck dog in McMann would bring some life to the third line

A lot less scoring threat but Lorentz and Holmberg can pitch points and you can have Kampf center with his bloated contracted and limited offense.

That leaves a dominant top 6. Knies as a legitimate power forward with sniper Bobby and Willy Styles.

I can't say I've seen too much on this preseason but to me that's a solid line up. Time will tell and I'm no coach or expert just a fan lol

In a perfect world we trade Jarney and Kampf

Looks like putting Jarnkrok on LTIR makes them compliant.

Not even sure why he put Dewar there either, regular IR gives no cap relief as far as I know.
Regular IR allows a team to replace an injured player with a healthy one even if both players count against the Salary Cap.

The CBA limits a team to 23 players per NHL team, but a player on IR allows a team to exceed that upper limit, for a temporary/limited time [Short-term IR = 1 week / 3 games etc ].

Dewar on IR allows the Leafs to dress someone like Lorentz in his place for opening night.

Ahh, but you proved my point, which is that those crummy players are all they can afford because of the core sucking up all the cap space.

Isolating a sentence without reference to the ones surrounding it is intellectual dishonesty at it's finest. When you strip a point of its context and try to argue it independently of the argument with which it was included you rob it of any meaning. Cherry pick someone’s words out of context and you can make even the smartest people in history sound as stupid as you want.

That's not what happened here, but it's what you tried, and instead inadvertantly proved my point for me.

Blah, blah, blah.

Our goalies are so cheap it offsets this.

This is just simple math.

And if Mess thinks that spending less cap on something automatically makes it weaker, then I wonder why he keeps suggesting that our goaltending is going to be the best in the division. With us spending among the least in the league on it, then according to his logic, he should think it's weak.
