I think it is pretty simple .. a better regular season team beats up on some weaker teams like Calgary Ottawa and Canucks... and Habs were hurt most of year and Jets lost Schif for playoffs .. but as I said before year started I thought Habs D and G would end up prevailing which is what happened .. and Jets and Leafs would give them a tough fight but losing JT and Schiefele was a huge body blow for each .. but overall none of these teams would have made top 3 in Atlantic and would have fought for wildcard spot at best .. same thing will happen this year with Habs and Leafs fighting Metro teams for 2 wildcards

A weaker version of the Leafs nailed down a divisional spot against stronger Bolts/Bruins teams the last time we completed a full standard season

Again opinions .. my take is Leafs were stronger teams who have weakened year to CAP .. and Florida is now a much deeper squad with better tending too .. results will speak volumes .. i hope Leafs grab a wildcard but my bet is it is a 50/50 proposition whether they can hang onto it over last couple weeks of this upcoming season

Ideally yes, but my point is that it is not a Dubas "thing" to not move UFA's in a playoff year. If it was the Leaf's goal to make a deep run, then there is zero chance you move Hyman.

This is not even a hockey thing. In no sports do playoff teams move UFA'S in season when they will make the playoffs.

I understand your point, and you are correct that is rarely happens. Doesn't mean it shouldn't in some cases.

The defense is inarguable Rielly-Brodie Muzzin-Holl Dermott -swede is much better than Rielly-Hainsey Gardiner-Zaitsev Rookie Derm- Ozhiganov

Up front its murky, but I think today's big 4 is better than that year. AM/MM have progressed some, but the big difference is we only got a fraction of a year from Willy (both in duration and effectiveness relative to the player he is now.

Kadri-Goat vs. Kerfoot-Kampf is the present pair, even strength the drop off from Kadri to Kerf is small, whereas Kampf between a legitimate shutdown/PK option vs. Goat as a sheltered placeholder.

The rest of the wings... yeah. You've got a case there.

Hyman/Kapanen/Johnsson (pre injury)/ Marleau/Brown/Ennis vs. Ritchie/Kase/Bunting/Soup/Spezza/Simmonds, in hindsight if we get the 19 groups performance out of the current we're laughing, but that group had just as many question marks going in.

Florida is now better than they were then, but I think the hits to Boston and Tampa will be felt more.

No but if they played Buffalo every night……easiest season ever
The counter argument is, what if that one team was Buffalo?
Yeah, that's basically what I said. It's about the quality of opposition, not number of teams.
You’re gonna be absolutely shocked when the teams defensive numbers dip playing against actual contenders
On the contrary, you're going to be shocked when we put up good defensive results again. We'll be playing more of both good and bad teams.

The Leafs really passed on Johnsson and Dermott for Weegar

They really didn't. I think the trading threat was just a tactic to get him to sign. Florida never really had any intentions of trading Weegar.

Well Zeke as you eventually mature, hopefully you can come to the understanding that "always" using the same approach to seemingly similar situations is not a good idea.

Well, if you would be happy re-signing Rielly right now....then I don't understand the difference between doing that or using that caphit on someone else.

That super-deep Panthers squad is starting Joe Thornton as its #3C.

You might remember Joe as the guy who was barely holding on to a 4th line wing spot for us last year even while we had injuries.

Marek said Leafs were interested in Weegar, Friedman said Panthers wanted Dermott and Johnsson and the Leafs said no.
Doesn’t really make sense considering we then went on to trade Johnsson for a bottom six hopefully player. Doubt the Leafs said no to that.

Looks like Dermott is healthy. It's also telling as Jonas noted in his article that he isn't skating on the right side.

I think that's my ideal bottom-6 assuming Spezza pushes Simmonds out unless we're facing a Wilson type. The Bunting-Kerfoot-Kase line would be a good 2nd line on a bubble team and I really want to see Kerfoot playing with someone who agitates as much as he does. If we sneak Brooks or Semyonov through waivers, either would be a good fit to replace Kase if/when he gets injured.

I really like Engvall-Kampf as a pair to take D-zone starts as well. Spezza on RW gives you 3 faceoff options, Kampf is LH and Spezza is RH as well. Engvall and Kampf's skating should be enough to cover for Spezza's in that context.

You are wildly inconsistent in your analysis.

Leafs are a regular season team, Montreal's playoff run doesn't matter because they beat the Leafs but only without JT, but you also called that the Habs D and G would prevail? And you have Florida who isn't even consistently good in the regular season let alone the playoffs as taking a top 3 spot.

Whatever mental gymnastics you need to tell people the Leafs suck I guess

Again. Who does that? Give an example.

How the hell do you think there are so many UFA'S every year.

Who is trading their UFA's at the start of the season, mid season or anytime when they are expected to make the playoffs?
I can only think of this happening two times.

Kevin Shattenkirk & Rob Blake.

Rob Blake was 20+ years ago.

I don't speak to Shanny anymore .. he says he still is best friends with boys from hood but my bro who is same age and played with him for 4 years on same teams has not heard a peep when he texts him .. and he says Rammer, Glugosh and Marche none of them hear from him .. he lives in NYC and has a new life with his actress wife/kids with a condo here ..
I don't have mine either .. I don't care as much as I am not going this year .. but my buddy who bought mine this year keeps texting me too .. I can't keep going down every Sat night and dropping a G at Hotstove to watch that core .. COVID will screw them up I am sure .. everyone blames COVID now in biz
We made our final payment for the season today for 50% of the season. Still don't know what games we get though.
I split mine with a business partner so we each now get 25%. I'll be selling most of mine, just like to get on with it and recoup some money.
