Nylander said he didnt think he needed it. Im sure he thought the same when Marner did it to him in the playoffs and it caused him to fall. Nylander has such great wheels that he doesnt need it. Is it really proven to be that effective? Ove only seem 1-2 highlights in 20 yeaes where they highlighted in a broadcast.
Kyper was acting like it was the first time it had ever been done.

If they have a brain they will definitely re-sign Marner.
Maybe if he maintains this attitude, hovers around a 95 point player, and is once again pushed out of the playoffs, they’ll rethink it.
Management’s having a brain is the unknown.

Marner’s tone and actions so far this season may sway management’s decision to move on from him. I think they are leaning towards re-signing him, but maybe they’ll reevaluate.
‘Tone and actions’

He seems a little different this year. He’s always seemed uncomfortable in front of the mic and says things that he shouldn’t, but this year he seems a little more calculated and intentional.

His comment and mannerism answering the question about the upcoming Amazon show was odd, and if he was in a tough media market he would been drilled after that comment.

I haven't really been watching the interviews this year. Do you have a link? Or what was it he said?

I saw it in the closed Marner thread.

But then you have the Marner disappearing act in the playoffs where he reverts to a 3rd line player. If that doesn’t change in 2025 there’s no way he’s coming back.
Unless he’s signed before then.

He said that *gasp*... he wasn't all that interested in watching the show... THE NERVE! HOW COULD HE!? :eek3:

"if he was in a tough media market he would been drilled after that comment"
As he literally drills him in the toughest media market over the comment that wouldn't be given a second thought in any other market. The guy has no idea what he's talking about.

Honestly, I don’t think Patches should make this team. We need a younger, faster guy in his spot.
Completely agree. Getting Thornton and Marleau vibes. This team is looking older and maybe a bit slower. I prefer Robertson with his youth and energy but Max has a spot. I am just very skeptical he brings much to the table at this point.

Marleau was fine his first year as I recall.

I don’t think it’s one or the other anyway, Cowan goes back and they both make the team.

I have my own theory on this. After the Hab playoff loss I think he bought into Keefes playoff hockey playbook. Playing on the defensive side of the puck Limit turnovers don’t take risks. And that is what he did. The problem is that doing this takes away everything that makes Marner elite. He is best when he just reacts and tries plays most won’t even consider even if a few end up in turnovers. Safe Marner is a fraction of the player.

If you read my response further down, I said Lindholm at 2C and Matt Roy at 2RHD would have made us better and more balanced had Marner waived.
So even with the assumption that we could just hand pick whoever we want and get them to sign in Toronto for the exact same AAV (very unlikely), we'd be paying 1.25m more than Marner/Benoit to get older and lose more overall offensive impact than the overall defensive impact we're gaining. Not sure how that's supposed to make us better.
