Hoping Willy C makes the opening night roster

no one should over react to waivers,
all the guys NYR waived today were very likely gonna be waived to Pack,
none were locks for 13th F or 7th D and they're marginal/AAAA NHL'ers

but our org depth will suffer if, for example,
Flames and/or Habs decide to reclaim Mackey and/or Belzile respectively.
And Emberson's post-season AHL recognition as top defensive-D could tempt a team needing RHD depth

Lafreniere gets a chance with skilled players and noticeable for the wrong reasons.. give Cuylle or Othmann a chance on top line. Lafreniere is just isn't good at hockey. He should pick a different career. I'm done with this bust
I did not see the game. How did Laf look physically? Was his skating the same ? How was his puck handling? Did he create any room?

With those guys going down I think Cuylle has it in him to get that 3 LW.

Kreider-Z-Laf
Panarin-Chytil-Wheeler
Cuylle-Trocheck-Kakko
Goodrow, Bonino, Vesey, Pitlick

And I don't think Bonino is safe with Brod playing well.

They would be defying historical evidence - in general terms - to continue to produce as they have for much longer.

Almost all players begin a noticeable decline in the quality of their play by around age 30. That doesn't mean they have to be run off the team immediately or can't be useful, but it's not wise to assume that if these are the players carrying us now, that they will also be capable of carrying us at age 33. They'll need to transition into high end support roles and Kakko/Laf should be the drivers.

Since that's not happening, it doesn't look good for us.

Jagr had 123 points at age 33. Marchand had the second most points of his career at age 31 and. most of his career at age 30. Messier 107, most points as a Ranger, at age 31. Ovechkin 90 points at age 36. Crosby 93 at age 35. Nugent-Hopkins a huge step at age 29 100+ points for the first time. Brent Burns 61 points at age 37. Giroux 79 points in 82 games at age 35. Couture. Giordano. Pavelski. Kopitar. Krecji. These are stars. Panarin and Zibanejad are stars.

I think you overestimate the severity of their decline if they're even declining yet.

to me, the interesting thing here (but it doesn't mean much) is
the waivers-vulnerable guys NOT waived today
Brodz and Lesch, Hollowell and Harpur (... and Domingue)

I expect all to be waived, even if Brodz or Lesch break Camp with the big club as 13th F
Waiving does NOT mean they gotta be demoted right away ...

We got "run off" in a 7 game series? Sell at the deadline? Last years Eastern Conference winner was an 8 seed that beat the best regular season team in NHL history. Come on guy. Your MO for years has been saying that everything the Rangers do that's any good is luck or not replicable, and everything our rivals do is genius and the standard to judge us against.
Not sure how "everything they do good is luck."

I said just earlier in this thread, the Rangers are pretty darn good at fielding a playoff team.

The truth is that the next step is the hard one and they aren't good at it though. In fact they are terrible at it.

Doesn't mean that there is nothing to be proud of in that. Teams like the Coyotes, Senators, Sabres, etc, can't even get the playoff part.

...

And yes, after the Devils got their first taste of the playoffs and got their legs after the first two games, they basically embarrassed us the next 5.

At this point, you gotta start looking at the zegras situation. Laf, goodrow, Jones, Robertson, edstrom, picks all available and a deal can be made.
If zegras isn’t taking 2-3 million from Anaheim, why is he taking 2.2 million from us? And Anaheim isn’t taking goodrow.

You are citing exceptions to the rule.

Most players decline from their primes of like 26-29 and it's pretty substantial.

We will move out salary soon enough.

Looks like his usual self, nothing stood out as a difference from the first preseason game or from last season.

But its early... its been early.

Behold, The 2023-2024 TEMPLATE

Kreider - Zib - Vesey
Panarin - Trocheck - Wheeler
Kids
Goodrow - Bonino - Pitlick

Lindgren - Fox
Miller - Trouba
Gus Bus - Schneider

Shesty
Quick

Trocheck, and other similar comments from other players, just confirm what many of us were saying all of last year. If the Rangers fizzle out in the playoffs, it will be because of coaching. The talent is unquestionable on this roster, and I think Laviolette and this staff of really sharp up and comers that he and Drury assembled can maximize that talent.

I do hope the new coaching staff can show that there is more in these guys than the last 2 coaches have gotten from them.

It is a preseason game. I'd be happy to hear of some improvements in camp. I know they used to run some tests to see where guys are. I hope they still do and it shows up positively in the tests because Laf worked really hard this offseason.

I just want to hear Laf's skating, stick handling and motor looks improved after a good offseason. Even if it is coaches saying that after some great practices. I do not care about stats because I feel if he improves those 3 things the stats will eventually follow.
He looks the same since he was drafted
