Training Camp and Preseason Discussion

  • Xenforo Cloud is doing server maintenance Thurdsay 13th at 9 AM GMT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. We expect to have this issue solved once the maintenance is complete.

Really glad Clifford worked on his skating and Nolan losing some weight. They both look substantially faster than previous years. Now, they can skate themselves into better scoring positions, though they now need to work on those hands as they can't finish! Something to work on next.

Just watched the Kings replay. Guaranteed Fox says no waiver issues for Toffoli! He is on an entry level contract and can be sent up and down all year.

Thanks.

So it's just a report at this point? Be interesting to see the final details.

Either way, guy carved a career out of almost nothing. He was available in the waiver draft one year back when they still did that before he had even played one NHL game. Lucky for us no one claimed him. Had a good run as a King. All the best to him in the future (though I never liked his shot at Winnipeg when he was with the Coyotes).

I can't see why. Judging only by last night's game (I was there), Frattin should be selling pillows - because he knows what 'soft' is. When he wasn't out of position defensively, he was flubbing passes (sending & receiving) and getting knocked off the puck. And knocked off the puck. And knocked off the puck. Easily. And then he'd stand there and look at the guy who knocked him off skate away with the puck.
Toffoli looked a heck of a lot better last year during the season and in the playoffs than Frattin did last night. Maybe it was an aberration. I hope so. Otherwise TT should definitely get the nod over this guy.
Frattin is very strong and hard to knock off the puck. He's a solid possession player. That's definitely not the norm for him, though he has stretches where he can be quite inconsistent.

Based on one preseasson game last night, not very broadminded of you. What about last week when he had 3 points and was very strong on the puck? He's not a soft player, not even close.
Real season isn't for another week, that's when it counts.

TT isn't an LW and Sutter has already said he's not playing there, and not in the bottom 6 either. Sutter has decided TT's not ready yet.
His team, his call.

I was impressed by the Kings 4th line last night. I don't know if that was because they were playing well or they were playing against scrubs but they were effective. Kopitar was a stud out there. I think Fasth played a great game. The Kings had a slow first period but were good after that. Penner has been useless in both games I've seen him play. I feel bad for the guy but his NHL days may be numbered unless he pulls it together soon.

Carcillo is a better player than he has been given credit for. Unfortunately, due to his reputation, he draws more negative criticism and gets extra attention from officials, as we saw on the penalty that was called on him.

He's a better suited fourth line winger who is tough and can make plays, as opposed to a player like Brad Richardson who wasn't really cut for physical play.

He's a forechecking pest. He doesn't have a good shot. He can't pass. He's not good defensively. What, exactly, about his game makes him better than his reputation?

Carcillo was one of the best players in last nights game. If he can play like that all season I would glady welcome him to an everyday 4th line job. He created some plays and was physical; penalty was 50/50 but other than that he played very well last night.

So he's supposed to be a two-way, playmaking winger who has a lethal shot? Sorry I don't share your same unrealistic standards for a fourth line player who does his job. :shakehead
Maybe if you paid more attention to what he does out there you'll notice that he's an effective presence on the fourth line.

The consensus league wide is that Carcillo is a 4th liner, at best. You claimed that he's better than what the perception of him is. It might be time to throttle back on your hyperbole.

Cuts coming tonight.

Expected: Forbort, Bodnarchuk, Vey, Shore.

Possibly: Pearson, Toffoli

Doubtful: Ellerby, Schultz

seriously? i was expecting them to happen after Vegas. give the guys extra time/exposure at the NHL level. while also bringing extra bodies to rest the regulars.

The last two preseason games are tuneups for the regular season. We're not going to see prospects in there unless they want to give some guys final shots. Those expected cuts were MY expected. But we'll see who gets the axe. May just be one or two players. Or we could see our roster take shape.

And I believe Shore has been cut. He just tweeted he's taking a short trip to visit his younger bro in Denver. Don't think he'd be doing that if he was going with the team to Vegas. Could be wrong though.

God damn people... I realize this is the internet and therefore a requirement that we all be condescending dicks to each other but maybe we should realize we're all fans of the same team? Jeezie Creezie...

I happen to agree with Ziggy that Carcillo was way better than I expected him to be last night. He was effective on the forecheck and made a few nice passes from the corners out into the slot to set up his line mates. Also many people have said, including Sean O'Donnell on the broadcast last night, that Carcillo is capable of moving up and down the lineup in a pinch, so I'm not so sure sure about the league wide perception that he's a 4th liner at best either. In any case it's a good problem to have that we have these kids pushing for jobs. I'm sure that we will see a few of them up and down over the course of the season.
