As a fan of the losing team which do you think feels worse?

For those who don't use Google, a Gentleman's sweep is when a team wins one game and then subsequently lose the next four games.

EDIT: Added reverse sweep as a choice.

I thought a Gentleman's sweep was losing the first 3, taking one, then losing Game 5
Nah, it's called a Gentleman's sweep cause you don't want the opponent to feel bad(being a gentleman like the name implies) for destroying a team off the hop so you let them win the first game to feed their ego feeling like they're in the same stratosphere.. then they get utterly dominated, humiliated, and destroyed in the remaining games.

How about reverse sweeps? Thats gotta be the worst. You think you're in like flynn then kapow.
Ah, darn. That one eluded me.

Added that as a choice.

In what universe is just losing four straight games better than any series in which you won a game?

In one scenario you got to enjoy the adrenaline rush of a playoff win. In the other you were just sad the whole time.

If you don't like winning because it will feel worse when you lose..... You should probably get a new hobby as your team is almost always going to lose in the end.

Traditional would be worst. At least you’re starting on a high with a reverse sweep.
Nothing but misery when it’s a traditional sweep. I think I’d rather miss the playoffs altogether than go out in 4.

If you come in as the favorite, traditional sweep feels worse.

If you come in as the underdog, reverse sweep and gentleman's sweep as worse (in that order)

As the underdog, if you get swept it's just a case of facing a better team and there wasnt much you can do about it, if they start to make you believe you'll win in 4 though, thats gotta sting.

Uncompetitive series spread the misery out a bit. By game 3, you already have a decent idea of where things are probably headed. Game 7’s deliver all of that misery at once. It’s a heartbreaker.

Game 7’s are better for the team. It’s little consolation when you’re second guessing every little bounce that could have changed the outcome.

As bad as traditional is, the reverse sweep is always the worst either as the favorite or the underdog.

Losing in 4 the maybes still result in the series going another game or two at most.

The reverse sweep you're on the verge of winning it even if the first 3 wins were fluky as hell. To be that close and have it agonizingly ripped away at the end... God damn man, that's the worst.

When you google "Gentleman's sweep" it says usually refers to a team wins the first 3 and game 5.

Pretty snarky comment considering.

WTF? That’s not even a sweep lol.
Neither is losing the first game and winning the next 4.

I can’t stand the term “gentleman’s sweep”
First off, nobody is being a “gentleman” and losing a game on purpose. Second, it’s not even a sweep.

I think it’s a term made up by fans of a team to mock fans of the other team they just beat, but weren’t actually good enough to sweep them for real.

Getting your ass blown out in a series is no fun. Losing in 4 or 5 it really doesn't matter because you were out of it from the beginning anyway.

Reverse sweep has to be the worst because you had hope. And not just hope, you were actively planning on the next round.

Yea, I've noticed some interpretations might be different but I went with the truest form of the term "sweep" when the winning team wins 4 in a row. It seems convoluted at times but for this thread I went with that definition.

So, to break it down it's, which 4 game losing streak in a series clincher feels the worse?

Don't let this distract you from the fact the Sharks got reverse swept and watched the Kings win the Cup.

Also. Don't let this distract you from the embarrassing clown pounding the Lightning suffered at the hands of CBJ after a near GOAT regular season
