Not much left in free agency, surprisingly a majority of the players were scooped up after day 1… Nylander might be worth taking a look at, Blais would be a solid cheap 4th line left wing open who loves to play physical but other than that I don’t really have any interest in others.

Roslovic doesn’t interest me very much. He’s solid offensively but bad defensively, he sucks playing down the middle and better suited on the wing. Don’t really see a fit with him.
Not sure if true - there was a leaked document from Pitts saying they signed Tarasenko.

Nothing officially announced though.

So we trade Lilly, and have the following as Right D...

Tanev, Hakanpaa (maybe?), Myers, Mermis, Niemela... and McCabe who can play both sides, but is a Lefty.

We have plenty of posts questioning the health of this group... Is this the RD you all want, after trading Lilly? Assuming Hakanpaa signs, or can play?

Lilly isn't getting traded at this point...
Marner has a better chance of getting traded at this point than Liljegren. You don't sign someone and then trade him couple of days after.

Given that Marner almost certainly isn't moving, I hope he comes into camp ready to silence everyone. He's an important piece, whether or not some in the fanbase want to admit it.

Given he's not a "speed" guy, so much as a dancer, I wish he'd get in the gym and bulk up some. We need him confident, and going to high danger areas on the ice with the puck. He forgot he was afraid, once, in that Boston series, and the puck went in the net.
I'm sure he'll have an outstanding regular season...........

How do you figure he's no better than Kampf offensively?

He's put up back to back 26 point seasons. Kampf has put up 26, 27, and 19 pointsin Toronto.

He's played less and has matched Kampf's career high already.

He's probably a bit better than Kampf, but not substantially.

Point made on being defensive, but we're trading Kampf anyway and not likely to get someone just as good defensively back, so you hope our D can compensate and roll Holmberg as the 4C.

McBain and Holmberg is a pretty weak 3/4 C mix. I'd like to add McBain too, but he's a good 4C on an energy line with guys like McMann and Reaves.

What's the trade value for Robertson if he is going to be traded.

Hopefully, another RFA that fits better. Jack Drury is buried in Carolina, and Joe Veleno isn't liked in Detroit.

26 points in 67 games last year, vs. 19 points in 78

Kampf 0.2875 PPG the last two seasons. now declining at 29 years old.
McBain 0.3489 PPG the last two season.... now improving at 24 years old.

You think Kampf is in decline. I think he just had a down year because he was very poorly handled by an incompetent coach.

They are really going to be running the exact same group of forwards back. A WORSE group of forwards because we lost Bertuzzi. We could NOT score in the playoffs at all. This is not good enough.

I think Kampf was made to look good previously, by playing with superior offensive players.. Kerfoot, Engvall, Jarnkrok, that boosted his totals. Without much better players, his points totals have dropped. Kampf is not an offensive play driver at all. I like him defensively, and on the PK though.

So when he played with 3rd line quality linemates, he scored at a 3rd line level... when he played with Reaves, he didn't.

Unless Toronto has someone like Tyler Johnson or Roslovic coming in on a cheap 1y/1m deal, or a trade lined up to acquire a way better 3rd line center, I don't think Toronto moves out Kampf to upgrade the winger depth.

Center is already a premium position and Toronto lacks it. The money some FA signed like Stephson/Wennberg was crazy. Now factor in he's on the number 1 PK unit and takes all D-zone draws.

I would have liked to see Atkinson at 900k as a Leaf. Think he would have been a good depth signing for the 4th line over Reaves.

Roslovic hasn't played C for a couple of years, and is better suited to the wing.

Our PK is a liability in the playoffs and he has a 40% FO rate on the PK, I get that he does the job and we don’t have anyone else to do it but he’s not doing particularly great at it.

Our blueline for the PK is really good IMO,

McCabe - Tanev
Benoit - Hakanpaa

Our forward group definitely needs some help though.
Maybe just stack three lines then, two specialists, dress 7 d for matchups and special teams, double shift the big buck guys to get more money’s worth.

Forward group is easiest to source / acquire. Its July 3rd - they have the whole summer to sort out the forward group and acquire some depth, which should be more than possible. I'd love us to snap A Nylander and A Boqvist up.

I blame coaching A LOT for the special team problems more so then personal. Toronto didn't adapt or change anything on special team for the entire series. Everyone knew Boston had two plays, from the goal line to Marchand for a shot or across to Pasta for a 1-timer and Toronto allowed it every time.

Meanwhile on PP, Toronto had one play only, try to get it to Matthews and didn't make any potential threat elsewhere on the ice.

23 Faceoffs on the PK in the playoffs is a pretty small sample size. I mean Lindholm was 39%, Trenin 41%... Kampf didn't have a good year in the dot though, after having had a tremendous track record previously. It's an area that he needs to work on, to get back to where he was.
