Risto would be a solid add for this team. I like what he brings and I think it would work really well with Rielly. But the price has to be right, given the term on his deal. Connor Murphy would be a good pickup too. Luke is probably the safest bet, simple physical game and we know he fits with Morgan. Shouldn’t cost much.

At fwd, I’d just go for a 3c. I’d look for value there. Laughton could be good but the interest tells me there will be overpayment here.

The more I think about it, the more I dislike the idea of giving up Minten in a package for B. Schenn. Minten could very well be ready to assume the 3C role next season at a fraction of the AAV and may provide similar production. I would be willing to part with Domi and a 1st and scraps for Schenn with retention. Otherwise, it's not worth it in my opinion.

Almost anyone but Schenn IMO because they have no value contracts and he seems to have really declined from what he was a couple of years ago. As a rental or if the club had let one of the big 3 go they could make the space, but just too much money this club to absorb for a guy with 3 years x $6.5 left.

Laughton has had a bit of a bounce back year but that may be directly connected to him being no longer used much at center (distant 4th on the team in FO this year). The contract means it can't be a deal that murders them for years like Schenn so if the price is right and there are no other options maybe but.....

I thought if not Cozens then maybe Hayton but his recent hat trick came at exactly the wrong time. Then we get into players Pageau, Kunin ,Evans or Bjugstad that are in tough to produce better than Kampf. They help but they don't really solve the #3c hole.

Brock Nelson? A pure rental who pks a little bit. I am 100% confidant he would outscore Schenn and probably Strome (2.26 pp60 vs 2.05 this year) Another primary OZ% guy which means JT stays with a lot of DZ starts but you can only the skill sets that are available right? They had said they wanted an add with some term too but there has to be that guy available.

Lindgren has, in my very limited perception, struggled the last couple years. He went from a player I wanted to one I would avoid.

That said, he'll probably be amazing now that I've weighed in.

I may be out there but id prefer ROR over Schenn. Gourde would be a solid bottom 6 add irregardless. Course this is all without knowing price. I wouldn’t pay much for Gourde.

There is nothing out there about liking ROR. His deal is good and he is the best 200ft option. Plus 28 ppp in 23-24, $2M less than Schenn and only on the books for 2 more years. I heard he didn't like the coach, or also he didn't like the culture, or he didn't like the attention getting stopped by fans on the street. A lot of this seems to be guessing from some anonymous sources. Below is from a 2023 Sportsnet article.

The more money comment I think could relate to the tax situation because IIRC the contract offer from Tre was about the same as what he eventually took. Dreger had mentioned after the signing that term and money were not the issue. In interviews Tre has said O'Reilly loved his teammates and it was the spotlight and the atmosphere but that might not have been all. Is ROR going to say "I still think I'm more than a 3rd line center" or anything about the coach, and if he did, is Tre going to say that when the spotlight factor is such an easy, inoffensive out?

If Berube came in for Keefe after Dubas was let go does it seem like he might have stayed? Anyway ancient history but if they could get him they should. A much safer addition than Schenn or Laughton.

As far as Gourde I am absolutely on board because he will cost pennies on the dollar. They could add him and another center plus a D man.

He makes 5 million, and Anaheim isn’t going retain for the next 2 years. That’s too much cap space to use on somebody who’s barely better than Domi at 3c.

Schenn at 6.5 isn’t a great offensive producer on his own, but he compliments offensive wingers well by being good enough offensively while also doing the dirty work. Think of him like a Hyman at center.

The contract and age aren’t ideal, and I wouldn’t pay the rumoured asking price… but he is the best fit by far available.

Laughton is a good option too. Less risk than Schenn, but less reward too.

Pageau would be a good guy to replace the defensive burden Kampf takes… or he would be a good match with Nylander. He’s super fast, elite defensively, and has enough skill to just dish to offensive wingers.

The others could play 3c as long as Kampf stayed as the 4c.

I used the word "Probably" which does not exude confidence that he cannot be a #3. Now if I said, he is no more than a #4C, then you'd be right.

You don't trade for a 20 year old thinking he's a finished product.

If' he's already shown he can play against NHLers, you have to give him credit, and expect he will get better.

I think we believe he can get better. Most 22 year olds are better than their 20 year old selves. Right?

Friedman said that we call on him a lot and to this point have been told not moving him.
