I think someone who doesn't get alot of noise on here that people should look at is Pageau, 23 points in 53 games is a 40 point guy for the 3c and this is a small thing but he's right handed where everyone else mentioned regularly on here from Schenn/Gourde/Laughton etc are left shot which Matthews/Tavares/Kampf are all left shots already would be nice to be able to have a center whose 4th I believe in faceoff percentage amoung players with 500+ faceoffs taken be right handed. kills penalties, has another year on his deal albeit at 5 million would look for a bit retained but he might also come in cheaper on the trade market then Schenn/Laughton who seem like the biggest targets from teams. NYI today are 3rd last in the East.

Going all in on Rantanen seems kinda silly but I could see it. With that said, I’d be furious if we let Marner walk and gave the equivalent money to Rantanen.

people want to get rib of Domi because hes having an awful offensive season with only 3 goal 13 assist at 5v5 or robertson with his 9 goal 4 assist ( in 5 game less) but think krebs with his 4 goal 11 assist ( who never did anything good in NHL) will change something offensively?

Well when you are the top team in your division, 2nd in the conference and you look around at the opponents sometimes you have to look wayyyyy in the basement and yet still, their grass is so much greener!

  • That being said... Buffalo does love to give away young good players who eventually turn it around once they leave, quite often :laugh:

Replace Pacioretty with Steeves come playoffs and we have a decent lineup....our defense and goalie tandem would easily rank top3.

With a shutdown force like this our offense would need to average around 2.50-3goals per game for 16games...thats 48-goals, assuming that our top 6 could achieve around 30-goals

Knies- 3

That leaves us with 18goals between our bottom 6 and all defenseman....honestly offense is overrated, we can easily reach these numbers, its our defense and goalies that have been our main issues and grit in the bottom 6

It's been explained to you, multiple times.

Krebs primarily plays with Lafferty and Malentsyn. They have 5 and 9 points.
Buffalo is a train wreck.
Most players do better once they leave Buffalo, as they don't develop players very well.
He was nearly 2 ppg in his last WHL season, and played well at the WJC. He SHOULD be having better offensive results.. but Buffalo.
Whether it's Robertson/Domi/McMann... those are upgrades over who he is currently playing with.
He's more productive/60, than Schenn, who was being discussed, thus the comparison.
He's young at 24, a RFA in 2026, cost controlled, and cheaper than other options. Obtaining him allows for a more marquee acquisition at D. He's physical, becoming good in the dot, good along the boards, decent defensively.
He's not a player in his 30's declining..nor a UFA. Nor is he injured, nor does he have an injury history.

Now given the cost is low, he either grows into being a decent 3C, or doesn't... and if he doesn't get to where we need, he'd still have value to move in the future, to upgrade. Young, cost controlled C's will always be in demand, and he certainly is that.

Domi has 22 points in 50 games.... he's approaching .5 PPG... if he gets there, that's decent for a third liner, and good value for the money. Domi is actually 3g, 14a even strength... not that it's much of a difference.

Congrats on making the cap work.. and it does... I checked...

But, there isn't a trade on there, that the other team does, and most of them are laughably bad.

Yeah, Domi is a one-dimensional player, but that has always been the knock on him. At $3.75M per season, you get what you pay for: good vision, good playmaking, and a bit of "snot" and chirping between whistles. I have no trouble with him playing wing. You ideally want his linemates to have size and a decent release. That's what I'd be looking for at 3C.

Realistically we only need 48-goals max to win the cup, solid defense and goaltending.....we just need our top 6 too show up, and for that too happen the leafs need a bottom 6 that can play VS teams top players and wear them down, and a defensecore that will hit & block shots thats all been lacking for us....only defenseman that doesnt really do that atm is Rielly but he is solid come playoffs and will sacrifice to save a goal, too be successful with Rielly he needs to take on a more defensive role, just make quick easy passes and if you get the puck shoot...its pre basic, he will have more success if he just stops trying to do everything, pick one and master it.

If our top 6 can get 30goals in 16games do we really need big offense numbers with our defenseman and bottom 6, nope....thats a myth and the numbers dont lie, all we would need is 18-goals in 16-games from 12-players🤣

If it locks this roster up for the next 2+ years those picks are meaningless, especially considering we would keep our top prospects in these trades besides Niemela....and those could be picks for the next 2years or future picks or spread out, regardless our scouts can work around this....the risk reward is most definitely worth 2years of picks if were running with this roster we have one last shot to go full tilt or trade one of the big 3 next year and build around the prospects we currently have.

And i worked the salary cap into everything, try running the numbers before making a false comment brother.
 
What people fail to remember is moving guys like Cowan, Steeves, Knies...any offensive guys with potential in our system or on the current roster over picks atm will force us to move one of the big 3, thats reality.

If we want to have a chance at winning the cup and being contenders for the next 10+ years, draft picks need to be moved for players that will A) make an impact now B) locked long term C) young guns with huge upside

What good will any draft picks do us for the next 2-3years?

True.. but then...

why does Utah want to move Sergachev, essentially for a poorer, older D man?
Why does St. Louis move Parayko for a 2026 first rounder, and essentially nothing else?
Why does Chicago move, and retain 50% for two years on Murphy for a second? They might accept a 2nd, for no retention, needs a first otherwise.
Why is Anaheim moving their captain, and retain for two years, for essentially no return?
Why does Seattle move Tanev for no real returns, or Philly Hathaway for nothing... and retain.

These would even get rejected on your playstation.
