There’s 2 players coming to Toronto in the trade and Geekie is the less valuable player.

I know and the way I break it down is the 1st is for Carlo, and Cowan is the return for Geekie.

I have NO Issue with a 1st for Carlo, Carlo would put the defense over the top.

But there is no chance in hell I'd do Cowan for Geekie.

Geekie could help the team but he's not worth a top prospect and Easton Cowan IS a top prospect

Why would Boston give up Carlo with 2 years remaining for Toronto’s 26 1st? I’d think the price would at minimum be 1st+Minten. The upgrade from Minten to Cowan covers the addition of the (almost) 20 goal, 26 year old RS C.

I also would not trade Cowan for Geekie straight up but there is precedent there with Buffalo trading Savoie for McLeod. I don’t think Buffalo has regrets.

Buffalo is last in the east they are not the example you want to use.

Most of the impact adds for cup winners were prime aged guys off the top of my head though. Lehkonen, Barbashev, Coleman, Goodrow. The Kane, Giroux, Foligno types rarely do much and usually end up walking in UFA.

They have legs and are excited. It's not some rocket science. Sure there are elderly unicorns like Wilson and Perry

Don’t get me wrong. I’d have a heavy preference towards a younger player as well, but I generally prefer to talk about players that are known to be available or at least heavily rumoured. Certainly not always but they tend to skew older, much like we are seeing with this deadline rumor mill.

Again, if Parayko is available, you get him. Damn the cost. I don't think he is.

It's really hard to gauge who is and isn't available. Too many teams feel they are on the cusp to give up players with term I think.

Despite what Friedman said, are the Schenns truly even available?

There are a few obvious ones but I think it's going to be a weird deadline... Either weirdly quiet or absurd names being thrown around.

I would also be okay with Parayko and Dvorak (money retained).

Dvorak is a consistent 30+ point player who gets goals in the teen range. Also, a good PKer. A "not bad" 3C, overall.

Also, Domi-Dvorak-Marner were an insane OHL line. Yes, I know that this does not really predict anything, but, hey, it's something!

to watch often habs game... If inwould compare Dvorak with a leafs player it would be Jarnkrok. Can do a little bit of everything but not a guy who will make a line better by himself.

Obviously it's way too early to know what happens, but Nylander and Tanevs injury situation will be interesting to follow in the next few days. I assume Nylander will be fine but Tanev probably is out for a bit if I'm a betting man. Do you push his return to the playoffs and open up 4.5M in cap space? Losing him for 2 months will be tough.

Yeah, I mean the potential of LTIR space is tantalizing, but missing Tanev for that long may not be worth it.

On paper we have one of the easier schedules to close out the season, so maybe they take the chance. If he's out 4-5 or so weeks, you might as well do it. But I'm always wary of players performing at a top end level after being out of game shape for that long.

Yeah, you’d hate to have to artificially hold back a player who might be able to get in game situations before the playoffs start

I would, I LOVE me some Chris Tanev in my life but you know what else I'd love

Rielly Parayko

Tanev McCabe

OEL Benoit.

That's a cup winning defense

If that's the pathway to landing one of the rumored difference makers it could be really good, otherwise it gets dicey.
