Trades & Free Agency Thread: 2024-2025 - Trade Deadline Approaches

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
Truth be told, I’d be good with a lot of different RD and C options at the deadline. They are the clear positional needs, and provided we get some solid upgrades and can get 2-3+ playoffs out of them, I’m going to be pretty happy.

I’d love to see the bottom 6 completely overhauled but sadly you have to be realistic. I can’t see more than 2 forward acquisitions tops, and if we got 2 forwards, I doubt we get a RHD as well

I’d rather target Cates over Schenn to be our 3rd line C

Im sorry but for anyone thinking replacing Domi with B.Schenn is going to make a huge improvement on this team is extremely delusional....facts are these guys are basically the same player, besides Schenn costing almost double in cap. Honestly if Domi can stay healthy he will surpass Schenn in points, ppg.

If were going to make upgrades it has to be our worst players out, or somone like Matthew's bringing us back 3-4 players on the same cap hit.

Most of these trades posted you will barely see any improvements if any at all.

33 pts in 58 GP = 47 pt pace 50% face offs 147 hits

Domi....22 in 49 or 37 pt pace 48.4% face offs 16 hits

It's been known to happen, I think Ekholm got traded before the 1st year ended of his extension with Nashville when he could have just went to UFA.

Domi also might not have St.Louis on his NTC, basically, would Vegas do it? If the answer is yes, why the hell are we any different?

As for retention, tough to say, we gave up a 1st for McCabe's..2.5-2.25M retained approximately?

It does happen... but does it happen with Treliving at the helm?

And we all know Domi's value is pretty much zero and is signed for another 3 years... so if we're comparing this to McCabe, we didn't give them any cap dumps and Schenn is signed for 3 not 2.

Why do you guys want to bring the Schens here? Why not just get reanimated corpse of Darcy Tucker at that point. It's just strange everyone wants to spend cap/picks on old legs and trash.

We have old trash.

Give some kids a go and ride the rush.

I guess we find out, no patience for Tree if he's not aggressive over this TDL and off-season, window is closing in the next 2-3 years.

Schenn would be an extra year of retention but it's debatable if he's gonna be worth it by the last 1-2 years of his contract, even retained.

Tough call, I don't love this to be honest unless we're getting out of the Domi deal.

Grabbing a 33 year old guy just doesn't excite me.

I like Parayko but doesn’t he have back problems? Going into next year with Tanev, Matthews’s back problem, Nylander’s migraines, Parayko’s back problems, two bandaid goalies, Knies on his 3rd concussion this year, McCabe good for 10 games of wear and tear, OEL and Rielly both with bad knees/ankles..

Bookmakers are going to make a lot of money on offseason predictions one way or the other.

Parayko has missed a total of 6 games over the past 4 seasons combined. You're not going to find a more durable player in the league.

Since the rumour of his back issues in 2021 he has played seasons with 80 games (and 12 playoff games), 79 games, 82 games and 57 games so far this season (and counting) while also playing for Canada in the WC and 4 nations.

His back issues seem to be exaggerated.

Ah, fun times pulling the team apart
Brings the board together except for old @Evilhomer 😂

I wouldn't mind Krebs but I'd prefer a #4-#5D who plays a certain way over big game hunting a guy like Parayko who's going to cost a fortune

I will say I do really like that Krebs is under contract for another year after this at dirt cheap, and still an RFA after that.

I will admit I don’t know enough about him as a player to have a strong opinion on how he’d fit with our team needs.

Same old Leafs fans.

Stop trading for old guys.

Isn't Toews ready for free right now? I heard he is working his tail off to play this playoffs.

We always miss the old guys we should have got as well. Perry Wilson say hi

There is nothing inherently wrong with “old guys”. There is a reason experienced vets are valued by many teams every trade deadline.

I have some trades. EK retained for Rielly maybe something else has to be in that. Will Dubas do it. Or maybe it should be Marner. I get confused

Most of the impact adds for cup winners were prime aged guys off the top of my head though. Lehkonen, Barbashev, Coleman, Goodrow. The Kane, Giroux, Foligno types rarely do much and usually end up walking in UFA.

They have legs and are excited. It's not some rocket science. Sure there are elderly unicorns like Wilson and Perry
