Friedman was talking about 2 teams really going for the Schenn brothers. If you read between the lines of their conversation, the Leafs are mostly like one of the teams. I don't hate it for the right price.
I wonder if making it known that they're interested in both brothers helps their position with Brayden Schenn who I believe has to approve any destination in a trade. Does this make the Leafs the only place he wants to go right now?

Luke won't cost much.

Murphy could end up being the McCabe of this tdl. I'm interested for sure
Every year we have to go out and prop up guys. We could use a more long term solution.

Yeah he's definitely one that checks some boxes. Not a rental, pretty good, RHD, big and mobile. Very little offence but could free up someone like OEL or Rielly to do more with someone not Myers or Timmins.

I'd then turn around and look at decent lower end center options like Gourde (LTIR for awhile), Evans, Kunin or Bjugstad.

I just don't know how Treliving gets to add both. I can see L. Schenn to some degree, retention or not, but B. Schenn is a lot more of an issue. I don't see why the Blues would retain 3M for 3 more seasons (yes 3) unless it's a huge return. The Leafs just don't have the cap space to absorb B. Schenn unless they do a big time cap trim.

A team like Florida will have a ton of cap space if Tkachuk is out until the playoffs. They are a team I can see easily doing it without any retention. Schenn can then slide into Bennetts spot if he walks.

Murphy's mobility is not there this year, buyer beware, some team is gonna send out a 2nd+ for what they remember about him vs what he is right now.

I haven't watched him extensively but I thought he looked more than fine last few times I've seen him. Yesterday he stood out in a good way for them. I'd easily give up a 2nd and whatever else.

I'd prefer a faster and/or more skilled RHD but there's just nothing really good pre-deadline that makes sense.

He was solid yesterday we scored 6 goals he was even on the night and looked good whenever the pucc was on his sticc or in his area

This is a year I would like to go a bit more all in because BOS is cooked with Lindholm/McAvoy being out basically this year.

Tkachuk is likely not going to be 100%

Ottawa looks more concerning

The problem? I don't love our options at C / D

If there was a way to get Carlo from Boston...because there are whispers he's available, I would pay up.

We lack cap space and assets, we need to move money out in deals without it costing the earth if possible because it looks like Jarnkrok is coming back soon

Honesty I hate the defenseman that seem to be available in our price range, there all probably going to cost more than there worth

The center situation screams Gourde to me, you know Tre and Berube would love the guy and he's capable of giving a team 2-way ability

Just a very uninspiring bunch with a GM who's pretty risk adverse and lacks creativity

That's not an inspiring mix

Would have to also include Cowan and Minten. Probably Robertson.
All interesting assets, but don't improve Utah right now at all either... so I can't see them being interested in any of that.

I listened to that today as well. There didn't seem to be any insinuation that it was the Leafs, or any other team for that matter.

Jarnkrok coming back will definitely create a cap crunch. The Leafs must have known it was a strong possibility but I sure as hell didnt expect him back this season.

No idea what to expect but I really don't see a big time blockbuster addition. More or less what happened last deadline -- heavy retention players for a bunch of picks to fill the gaps and hope for the best.

We can add Schenn without retention as long as Kampf goes the other way.

In a deal with St Louis, I’d also scoop up Ryan Suter. He’s on a league minimum deal, would be almost a throw-in, and can play top-4 if needed for a short stretch.

I’d send Cowan, Robertson, Kampf, and Florida’s 2nd rounder for Schenn and Suter.

Knies-Matthews-Domi
McMann-Tavares-Marner
Pacioretty-Schenn-Nylander
Jarnkrok-Dewar-Lorentz

(Steeves, Holmberg, Reaves)

McCabe-Tanev
Rielly-OEL
Suter-Hakanpaa

(Benoit, Timmins, Myers)

Rielly and oel should never be together

Correct... held virtually. The teams wanted this.
It's to bad loved watching the first round of the draft.
Fans of those teams had draft party's.
It was a night when the NHL could show of there future talent .
What because it is to busy for GMs tough suck it up for the good of the game

It should be fine! Almost every other league has moved to this model now. I assume it costs a ton to have your whole management office fly out to one location. It’s a lot. Should still be a good product

I think it’s costs tbh. Other leagues like the NFL have moved to this model and it seems to not impact the draft. I believe players will still go, it’s just the teams will call in and draft from their home base. It’s also probably very chaotic on the floor. This year things will be a little more organized

No we can't. It's only do-able if you also dump Dewar, Timmins, Reaves and keep Hakanpaa on LTIR. If Hakanpaa is off LTIR, it's over the cap no matter what combination you do even with 20 players.

This is 275k under the cap:

Knies-Matthews-Domi
McMann-Tavares-Marner
Pacioretty-Schenn-Nylander
Jarnkrok-Holmberg-Lorentz
Steeves

McCabe-Tanev
Rielly-OEL
Suter-Benoit

You think Treliving goes up in the next week and rocks the boat like that for B. Schenn?

in theory.

McCabe. Tanev
Reilly. x
Oel Myers/timmins/Benoit would work.

Could we do a cheap package of
Kunin/ruuta?

Ruuta was able to be a rd for hedman.

This is what looks most optimal.
Get a quality RHD to play with Rielly and move down OEL to the third pairing where he can play on his strong side and against lower comp.
You then have to choose which of the depth guys you want to play with OEL and for me Benoit immediately gets removed because I don't want him playing his weakside. Timmins vs Myers, one who's more offensively gifted where the other is safer and could compliment OEL better.
