Matthews to the Rangers for Trochek, Lafrenerie, Cuyle and Schneider. 😛
Would be an interesting looking Leafs team.

The Trade
Famously known as “The Trade,” Gretzky was packaged with Marty McSorley and Mike Krushelnyski in exchange for Jimmy Carson, Martin Gelinas, a 1989 1st-round pick, a 1991 1st-round pick, a 1993 1st-round pick, and $15 million cash, and this is not even the worst Gretzky trade.

They have the trade tree, interesting read and it's impact on the expansion Golden Knights.

I don’t know if it’s already been discussed here, and I don’t know if it’s true or not, but a friend told me this evening that apparently Friedman has been talking about the potential scenario of Carolina dealing Rantanen before the deadline and while it may have been speculative (I have no idea) allegedly he linked the Leafs to that discussion (among other teams).

Now, that sounds pretty crazy and just in no way at all likely unless they think Marner is for sure going to walk.

But one thing I found interesting is with Chicago having eaten 50% or Ratanens cap this year, and Carolina in position where they could do the same, Ratanen acquired at the deadline would only cost $2.3M which is pretty insane for whoever were to potentially add him.

The cost would be insane though

Whatever price they ask, I'd seriously consider it

1st + Cowan + another piece will easily be the asking price for him as a rental if we're considering the Giroux package

Sounds like a deal the VGK would do.

We've hear Rantanen wants around $12mm.

Columbus has a tonne of Cap Space.

Or something like Ryan O'Reilly and Preds have 3 * 1st. rounders this year.
'Canes gave up Necas, who they were apparently shopping in the summer, and Drury a 3rd. liner?

He had a good 4 Nations, and is a very good player, but I'd like to see how the playoffs works out for us first.
Way I see it is there is a high bar for Marner and the team to pass (together). The tourny doesn't change that, but does make it seem more possible today than before.

Depth, defence, goaltending, need to lock down tight playoff play to ballast the stars. The stars need to bring wave after wave of offence (three lines?), and definitively overwhelm the opposition over seven games, to an ECF or better.

It has to be abundantly clear that it works, otherwise Marner walks. Doing nothing, making excuses, keeping the faith, isn't how you go from losing to winning - the 'ol college try has been spent. Risk and action is required, as always.

Did you spell Murray wrong :sarcasm:

I'd worry about goaltending, but it is obviously quite the haul, and all long term.
Getting both Thomas and Kyrou seems impractical to get though. He's got to play with someone hypothetically in STL. Also, it would be better to mix up the package an get a D back as well if you were to do something lie this.

Wasn't my proposal ... I was just giving my opinion on it.

I think the value is fair, considering length of the contracts and pieces involved, for a players the Leafs control for less than 4 years now.

My biggest concern is whether the Leafs can replace Woll?

Money wise that is a lot coming in, but they are same age or younger than Matthews, 7 years of control.

But to your point, Thomas is the center, so Thomas, Neighbours, Payrako, 1st. would have a lower Cap Hit.

Doesn't matter I don't think either team would make that deal.

Great having 2 solid goalies but they have a make a decision on Stolarz in a year. I'd deal one of them while their value is high. Woll is from St. Louis which might entice Army. I can see them dealing Binner by the TDL to the Oilers??

swap kyrou for binner
Then you have Binner @ $6m and Stolarz up to bat in a year. Binner to Edmonton makes a ton on sense.

Forgot Kyrou an Berube do not mix. Maybe they can add Parayko and we can move Rielly somewhere if needed.

Well, the GM here seems to intimidated to make almost any move, so yeah, you're probably right.
Almost two years and he hasn't made any significant trades. Dubas would have been body bagged in half a dozen trades in that time.

That deal seems to be complete by June of this year. I hope you're right. I trust Rogers by far the most out of the 3 amigos and I think Rogers will send the noise on the board packing and get back to the business of winning.
