  • We're expecting server maintenance on March 3rd starting at midnight, there may be downtime during the work.
I'm attributing this to Shanahan, but the trend of leaking who they're going for and who they will be giving up so that the fans don't overreact and have time to "get used to the idea of it" is such a BS move that it really spoils most of the surprise and intrigue of any trade or UFA event.

doubt they move Parayko, but Faulk should be available.

Perfect upgrade over Timmins, can play top 4 if needed. 50% retention is a must, third team can help there.
I threw Faulk’s name out a little while ago. I think he would low key be a really solid addition to our blueline and someone who isn’t a rental either. The cost shouldn’t be very high, I’m thinking a 2nd, Timmins and prospect with 2 million retained on Faulk.

He’s not Parayko but he can do a little bit of everything. Still averaging over 22 minutes a night and can play in all situations.

Parayko and even Murphy would be my top two choices over Faulk but I wouldn’t be too upset if we settled for someone like him.

Jones is also 1 1/2 yr younger.

Why can’t Leafs get a good deal like the Jones deal, why does Leafs need to overpay for everyone.
I have been promoting bringing Seth Jones home to Toronto for a couple of years now.

Bringing him back to the city where his famous NBA Popeye Jones formerly played for the Toronto Raptors.

He would have been a massive upgrade to the Leafs defense now sadly he makes Florida a whole lot better.

kn

Knight hes 3 year younger than Woll. 23 still pretty young for goslie

a 23 yo goalie = 20 yo foward in term of development

Knight value > Woll
There are a number of goalies they are younger than Woll, but that alone doesn’t make them more valuable.

Now factor in Knight’s cumbersome progression and his off-ice issues, and I think what you have is a deal where risk was much more present for both sides; Jones’ contract and diminishing play and Knight’s development arc/off-ice issues.

Knies and Woll are both players I would value MUCH higher and I’m elated we didn’t feel the need to bring in Jones and don’t have the need to gamble on Knight.

I would rather use assets to bring Seeler and Oleksiak and still have assets and cap space going forward into 2025.

Seth Jones isn’t a difference maker. Had a few good runs but his play has diminished. I expect a jolt of adrenaline to affect his first stretch, but if Florida wins, it’s because of the core that’s done it.

I don’t see Jones as a Toronto boy. I don’t get the storyline angle at all. And it’s certainly not fantastical enough for me to part with the assets Florida did.

We don’t need anymore emotional narratives. We need cyborgs like Willy, but with size and menace and grit. If they’re from Toronto and the GTA, awesome! If they’re from Vladivostok, great.

Give Treliving (and I’m guessing Leach) credit here for not making an impulsive move that doesn’t address our needs from our means.

It’s likely other GM’s - driving prices up after fans get excited in our market.

It's the same thing they've done with all the contracts.

They have enough space by moving out Knight.

Didn’t realize Knight carried a 4.5 AAV. Crazy Florida was allocating 15mill in goalies.

Oh wow, had no idea he had a $4.5M hit. I bet they really wish they moved him out last offseason and kept Stolarz at $2.5M. They'd be way better off and we'd be screwed if they went that route.

Would’ve sold at an all time low value if they moved from him in the offseason. He didn’t play a single NHL game in 23-24.

Like that deal for the Panthers. The Blackhawks didn't do to bad either. Retaining for 5 years is a big chunk of money.

From the Treliving presser, it doesn't sound like they are interested in adding anyone big with term right now & doesn't sound like they have an apatite to add a "big name" as they think it doesn't always work out. Will probably be a 2nd teir C and a depth d-man for minor pieces.

He's not wrong from that sense. IMO I'm always fan of adding way before the deadline to give the player some time to adjust to everything. A lot of the time the deadline piece doesn't play the greatest.

Just said this in a different thread but I’ll add it here too. Nothing Tre has said here pre deadline should be taken at face value.

There is absolutely zero upside to him telling the media anything other than what he said. His comments lowered expectation, which means if he gets the big swing player he probably wants, he gets to surprise everyone in a good way, and if he misses out, he can pivot to lesser adds and everyone will say he did what he said he would.

That’s not to say it’s not possible he’s being honest, I just don’t think anyone should bank on any of these comments being in alignment with the actual team wants/plans.

They are a safety net.

How was Florida able to fit Jones in? Just because Tkachuk will be LTIR'd until the end of the season??

Someone is going to have to come off the roster... but they had room to begin with. They are just $1.1 mil over, with both of them on the roster.

It looks like they'll have enough cap room to sign Ekblad, and Bennett for next year, and fit them all under the cap too.
