Now Matthews basically confirming he won't be healthy this year and potentially for the rest of his career we need to go big game hunting for a long term solution like McTavish

Not really

Doesn't know if he will be able to put injury back this season doesn't mean he won't be healthy... just saying the same than anyone else who say we will see how his injury will develop. That say absolutly anything new and people try to make a
whole story about it.

If we really are doing an LTIR till playoffs type of thing with Matty what type of players does that open up for us?

It's not going to be easy filling up 13M of quality with the assets we have.

Kreider? Despite the downsides..

Matty LTIR time - we need to go bigger than Gourde now.

[Nelson] Willy
JT Mitch
Knies Domi

Matty slots into that last pairing for the playoffs.

Extra cap space goes into an RD to replace Timmy. Can afford to run Lorentz-Kampf-Jarn 4th line.

Nelson 7 goal goal and 10 assist at 5v5 in 38 game playing close of 16 min/gm
1,71 pts/60 min
-2 goal on pk
- 1 on pp
- other aspect of the game : 1 assist

total 10 goal 21 pts

Gourde 5 goal 9 assist at 5v5 in 34
1,65 pts/60 min
-Nothing in pk
-doesn't play in pp
- other 2 goal 1 assist

6 goal 10 assist

Did Nelson is really an upgrade to justify maybe paying 2X whats gourde would cost?

I haven't seen much of Nelson myself, or the Iles generally, but they sure do seem similar.

Nelson is without amulet i believe.

I like Gourde too but previous three seasons Brock has 107 goals to Gourdes 46. Brock is a top six vet, Gourde is on the 4th line.

Who else is out there?

Nelson is 33 and his type of player decline pretty fast too, so do you want to pay the big price for what he did in the past or for what he still bring to the game?

A 1st and niemela or a cowan including in a trade is probably where talk would start for Nelson.

Gourde would be closer to a 2nd and a B prospect like Chadwick

Did Nelson at his actual level really deserve the difference of price, that's the real question you need to answer

The thing is, if you add long-term cap it will create a huge massive issue in the off-season. Kreider creates a nightmare cap wise going into next season.

Gourde with B. Tanev could be had without any retention and both are pending UFAs probably easily retainable if they fit. Neither would be tough to acquire at full cap. And you can even go get a defenseman to bolster depth there.

But this is all a very unlikely scenario to me.

So that is what you took from his statement?

That escalated quickly.

Haha he didn't say that obviously but it's kinda looking that way. Back injuries and even hip are pretty bad for hockey players. I just hope he isn't going to be the next Lupul

You think Kreider comes with an exit cost? I think someone would take him. I'm not really after him but he's available and with 24 in 43 over the last three playoffs he might be our strongest scoring threat.

Seems Matty is back to day-to-day again anyways, so back to priorities I guess.

A power foward ( kind of position who declining pretty fast) scoring at a pace of 33 pts... who will turn at 34 in april coming for an other 6,5M for an other 2 year... The guy having 2 goal and 1 assist in 32 game at 5v5 ( It's worst than Kampf), he's nothing more than a PP specialist right now

You really think someone will be interest in him next summer? If he don' have a better end of season, he would become Marleau 2.0 and maybe even worst to move. It's a huge pass

This would be more of an off-season move if the Leafs get bounced early again but looking around for a potential Rielly trade,

To Toronto: Samuel Girard + Ross Colton
To Colorado: Morgan Rielly + Pontus Holmberg

The Rags have imploded but he scored 40 goals last year and is a playoff machine. His value at the end of this year with the Leafs should be similar to JT and we're likely looking at 6.5 there.

He's going to return a 1st probably, it's not going to cost a 1st to dump him in a few months. The Hawks just signed 37yo Foligno at 4.5M and the cap is going up.

Again, this is in a world where Matty is LTIR'd and we're trying to fill up the cap with available players and limited assets.

The fact NYR imploded doesn't explain his stats sorry...

Right now Kreider is worst than Foligno in every part of the game except powerplay, winning 6,5M and doesn't bring any leadership contrairly to Foligno.

Matthews on LTIR doesn't mean leafs should make totally trash move... Kreider would only have negative impact in a leafs team, he would remove someone of pp1 ( the only area he can play anymore), make player unhappy and make leafs worst at 5v5...

Reilly for Girard+ is a Dubas move. Rielly for Parayko is more to Tre's liking.
That is more to everyone’s liking I’m sure, however St. Louis would never do that trade.

Ideally, it would be nice to move Rielly in a deal where it returns a second line center and we replace him with Chychrun via free agency.
