6,5M for a powerfoward on decline with an other 2 year remaining after this one , no thanks... Its type of player who's declining pretty fast, he will become one of worst NHL contract on his last 2

Yes, Cap is important.

I'm guessing, just based on EV TOI/g, he's playing on the 3rd. line.

He has 1 assist? 11 goals.

Was playing with Kakko and Smith? Second on team for PP Goals.

This team has a lot of issues generating offense consistently, especially from the back end. There isn't a great solution to that, but I'd aim so much higher than Ceci and Savard. They add nothing that we don't already have. I'm biased towards Schenn (I have his jersey) but unless he's basically free, I don't get it.

I think Gourde at least elevates part of the team we lack. Speed, tenacity and versatile. He's just under 0.5 PPG so he's bouncing back offensively.

Schenn's wheels have basically disappeared in Nashville, we might have squeezed the last of the juice there.

I agree in that generating consistent offense from both the bottom 6 is a concern and our back end isn't helping.

We have Rielly, OEL and Timmins which have varying degrees in ability to generate some offense from the back end, I don't know how/when this would get addressed. Rielly isn't dynamic enough IMO but the soonest we can talk about that is the off-season.

I think Savard is still a pretty good player (from what I've seen this season).

I really don't know what to expect from Berube leading up towards the playoffs.

I don't think we've seen half of the things TOR are capable of, but I get the feeling that the plan is to be low event. Wait for mistakes, turnovers, and to not give the goalie any rhythm.

I can only imagine bolstering more defensive players.

I certainly don't mind us being connected to Gourde, his start to the season was pretty meh but he's come on nicely and he's trustworthy in all situations

That's a coaches best friend right there

I'm struggling to understand our philosophy for the backend though
Getting guys who can defend is great but we also need to get some offense from them to
Forwards still need to be given the puck in good attacking positions every now and then

Savard is definitely the better of the 3 names brought up.

That's fair but if you're going to go and get someone, maybe get that player that can elevate part of the team that needs help. OEL and Timmins are solid but haven't done much offensively. Rielly is still by far our most consistent offensive player in terms of being able to create in the offensive zone. He doesn't just dump pucks in corners, he can make a play.

But yeah, finding a good fit will be hard because adding a Tyson Barrie level player isn't great either and maybe that's why they'd rather target a defensive guy and hope OEL, McCabe and maybe Timmins get hot or something.

Justin Faulk would be a great target/addition. Just not too sure how we’d be able to make it work given his cap hit but he would slot in very nicely.

McCabe - Faulk
Rielly - Tanev
OEL - Timmins

After last year's playoff disappointment, my main inclination was to try to move off of Rielly and revamp the defense.

Ghost or Gustafsson are sufficient PP guys, they are a shot threat, can make passes and move around the offensive zone, Rielly hasn't looked as mobile the last 2 years but his passing ability, especially for break outs remains a strength.

Fox, Hughes, Josi and Makar are guys that I would consider more rounded out type elite offensive types on the back end and they all have better shots than Rielly.

Let's see how it goes over the next few months, maybe that eventually becomes a conversation point.

Better you are to defend, faster you will be to get the puck back and more opportunity you wilm have to attack.

We are actually in good shape in the length defender department right now. I have no problem with upgrading on Timmins - the weak link - and completing a big tough, mean blueline that resembles 2021 Montreal in some degree to play a park the bus and rope a dope hockey... But this might also be the time to get a Sam Girard type who can be a more dynamic puck mover and QB type player who can reconnect the transition game better. We have a lot of guys who can protect a player like that.

If the guys defending aren't efficient moving the puck or joining the play you end up struggling to create offense, you still need goals to win games

It's been an issue the last few playoffs and this season so it's a problem
