I wish there were some way to pry Vinny Trochek from a desperate Rangers team. That'd give us an embarrassment of riches down the middle, but it's obviously a total pipe dream. Wouldn't have the assets to bring him in. Also seems to be one of the few guys on the roster Laviolette leans on.

Granlund is having a great year production wise and he'd obviously be an upgrade somewhere. I'm far from a pro-big player/physical/meathead... but isn't that a tad... soft? It doesn't seem to fit at all what Berube and Treliving are trying to "build" in terms of compete. JT is having a great season and pushing him to the "3rd line" minutes seems inefficient as well.

The Leafs probably don't need to go all out on a top center rental. What they need to me is more of a role player that fits into the 3 hole. Someone that can play 13-16 minutes, preferably a top PKer, to form a rounded 3rd line. I think someone like Laughton would be the kind of player I feel fits better into what we need as an example.

Granlund is exactly the type of player I would see a Dubas' front office target - I think Tre will pursue a more physical 3C, which will likely also be preferred by Berube

Unless they dominate for next 3 months, I still think the plan will be to give Robertson his fresh start he wants, move Domi to RW and find a center.
Based on what Kappo got traded for there’s almost no trade value for Robertson that would make the team better this year, unless it’s part of a larger package for 3C.

That would be the idea. Or just indirectly trading Robertson for whatever you can get, and turning around to get a center.

For those who are of the mind that we need a partner for Rielly, here is an interesting article to read, on Defensive Defenseman and their ratings.

Instead of trying to find a unicorn that can make Rielly looked good they should be trying to mive him if that’s even possible……..

Interesting thought, but then you need to pick up a new LD to replace Rielly... along with the NMC... it's just not realistic... he's ours, and we need to maximize those parts of his game that he is good at. He also seems to be one of the few who elevates in the playoffs too. It's also not really a unicorn, it's a simple formula for Rielly. We need a simple Defensive shut down guy. It's not a top pairing D we need, it's just a Schenn, a Lyubushkin, Hainsey type of simple play... even Brodie worked decently well for a bit. Gudas is the type you'd want, Schneider, Mayfield....

I might have agreed with you, before we extended him, but he's ours now, and we have to work with it.

Who’s up for a good old fashioned, completely unrealistic, heavily lopsided unfair of the Leafs blockbuster trade with the Islanders?

To the Leafs:
Brock Nelson
Scott Mayfield

To the Islanders
??????

Complete rubbish conjecture but always fun to dream.

Doesn't Krebs play in Buffalo?

If so why are the Sabres trading him in division to us cheapish, especially considering he's only 23?

I don't mind the idea I'm just wondering about the logistics

Cozens makes 7.1M, I'd have thought he's the first guy out the door if possible

One player I can see benefiting playing in a Berube system is Josh Anderson. If Montreal (or another team) was willing to retain 2 million, I’d be interested in him. McMann - Domi - Anderson would be such a pain in the ass to play against.

Would be more beneficial to find a partner for OEL as hes the better defencman, Ive been adament that reilly should be sheltered on the 3rd pair playing mainly ozone starts and 2nd unit PP

Ignoring contracts for a moment we are well past looking for a guy to play with Rielly. We need 1 guy to replace Rielly and that probably solves your problems on D.

We were looking for a guy to play with Rielly last year, and got him for cheap with Boosh. The year before, we did the same with Schenn. Both worked fine with Morgan being one of our best post-season players.

No reason to think we can't do the same thing this year - it certainly seems like a much easier scenario than shopping Morgan, especially in-season.

Our best players go missing come playoff time but the one guy who stands up when we need him is Rielly and people want to trade him 🤔

I'm not sure that's a great solution guys, he's our best (by a country mile) offensive defenseman

Get him a partner if your not happy but trading him is madness

Well, the common denominator seems to be Rielly is a problem that needs to be duct taped every year.
