Got to think in this hypothetical world it involves multiple firsts and Cowan as a starting point. Maybe Danford as well?

It would be some out of this world price.
If Crosby is worth 4 firsts, what is Matty or Mitch worth? No interest in kick starting Kyle's rebuild. He can enjoy drafting in the top 5 until he is fired.

It's never gonna happen. We don't have the cap space. We barely have the assets without crippling a huge part of the team. It's cool to dream and what not though. He's retiring as a Penguin anyway.

There's a better chance at going after Malkin if you really wanna go for it.

And we'd still need 50% retention, at the least just to take him on

I honestly don't think it amounts to much when adding Robertson Kampf, Niemela, Jarnkrok, Steeves, Abruzzese, Dewar or Hirvonen.

It's just a bunch of stuff that other team already have, or don't really want

Like I said before, the only way Crosby gets traded, is if he requests a trade, and asks to be traded only to a specific spot. If that were to happen, I'd believe he'd go to play with his buddy MacKinnon, before the Leafs. But hey, in some fantasy world, where he asks to play for the Leafs for some reason, maybe to be a Canadian legend, as if he isn't already.... well, the only way it happens if it's a really soft deal, where Dubas does Sid a favour, and moves him, and gets back less than market... and we all know if it were open market, the price would be pretty high. No point in speculating at all though.

If Sidney Crosby is available with 2 years left on his contract at 8.7, with this core, you get him at any cost. No Brainer. Minten. Cowen. Robertson. 1st. 2nd. +++

Pivotal moment for Dubas though... trading away the cornerstone better be a good return. Trading to Toronto and they win the cup? Ouch. Not likely. But Dubas knows our system well, and his team is older than old dried jam on the counter of an abandoned house.

Beautiful B.C.
You know Marner Nylander Matthews knies Rielly grebyonkin minten have turned out pretty well.
McMann (Former Marlie)-Tavares (FA)-Marner(Leaf draft pick)

Holmberg(Leaf draft pick)-Matthews(Leaf draft pick)-W.Nylander(Leaf draft pick)

Robertson(Leaf draft pick)-Minten(Leaf draft pick)-A.Nylander(FA)/Grebenkin(Leaf draft pick)

Steeves(Former Marlie)-Dewar(Trade)-Lorentz(FA)

Non contact: Knies(Leaf draft pick)

Suspended: Reaves(FA)

That's every forward from todays practice, quite a lot of home grown talent... defence is a bit different haha.

Multiple firsts, Cowan, Jarnkrok or Kampf to offset some money and they’d want a guy like Woll and then try and get us to take a guy like Jarry with Crosby. It’s a complicated deal

The price could easily be set. Cowan plus multiple firsts plus another prospect. The issue would be Dubas would obviously take the opportunity to try and get rid of money. For sure they’d want to get out from Jarry’s contract so you gotta work that in, plus Treliving would want to off set some of the money so you’re looking at guys like Kampf or Jarnkrok. A lot of moving pieces that could complicate things.

From a broader view point if you look at what we need Crosby would be a grand slam. Like if there is one player and one position you go all in is him. We have a ton of wingers, we’re deep in D, we have a great tandem in net, we need another C. He would be so perfect here.

You slot him on the second line, move Tavares down on the third line, and you dominate matchups

Yeah Crosby isn’t coming to Toronto. He wouldn’t have signed an extension if he didn’t plan on retiring a Penguin.
I honestly wonder if he could really just play out the next 3 years knowing Pitt is a dumpster fire and a lottery team. Like what is the point of even playing? If you watch his post game interviews you can tell the losing eats him up. I really think at some point he’s gotta really evaluate the purpose of playing. Is it for the Cup or just stat padding? Pittsburgh is absolutely trash and they got nothing to use as trade bait to get better

What if the cost is Knies, Woll, Cowen, Minten, 1st. Still doing it?

At some point surely the cost becomes too much?
Very true. Can't be roster players as it defeats the purpose. But multiple futures... I might counter with McMann over Knies, maybe Akhtyamov.

If Shanny is approving trades I doubt he'll want to deal with Pittsburgh. Not after explaining why he fired him on national TV because he was driving on the Gardiner and reflected on an email from Dubas' agent wanting more money
