The past week with all the injuries piling up, 3 players are being mentioned by so called insiders or hockey reporters that they could see playing for the Leafs this season.

Let’s start with ROR
Contract is great, don’t think Leafs need any retention as long as Calle goes the other way.
Assets wise, it won’t be much as ROR is just okay.
Would it make sense for the Leafs? No as he is just okay but his brand is more attractive than his game.

Kadri.
Love him and want him back and he will help the current Leafs.
Assets wise will be a lot esp Leafs will need retention.

Marchand
Probably best of the three and will instantly gives the Leafs the X factor in playoffs.
Like Kadri, the assets to acquire him will be even more than Kadri.

Overall, I don’t like any of them due to the cap. If there is no cap, Marchand can and will play a key role in playoffs.

Kadri is the same age as Tavares and is signed for 4 more years at $7M.

So Arthur Kaliyev too injured to play this year?

Reddit report, he is miserable in LA?
His return date is supposed to be November 29th.

I'm all for Robertson for Kaliyev. Robertson gets to go back to Cali and we get a guy who also had a scoring touch in the past. Perfect change of scenery trade. Greb needs a Russian buddy too.

Like if be fine with the trade on one level for pure entertainment purposes. But it's definitely not all that logical that we may flinch at a JT extension while being happy paying probably even more for Kadri whose the same age

I suppose he doesn't really care about winning then.

And I don't mean this in an insulting way.

Like regular Joe's, scrambling to get to the top of your "area of expertise", in time you recognize a pyramid needs fewer and fewer blocks at the top.

Enjoy the moment, regardless of where you are.
I doubt he leaves, my wife teaches one of his sons and says Giroux loves living here.
At his age and life stage he’s made his money and will stay where it’s best for his family.

Can’t see any incentive to do anything different that affects his family.

I don’t blame him one bit for it either.

Would’ve been a good personality and player to add straight out of Philly if he’d been amenable to it.

Zac MacEwan anyone? He was waived by Ottawa. Definitely grit. Berube would probably love him.

If he didn't have another year on his contract I'd consider it as a stop gap. I liked him years ago but he's not very good. He takes a lot of dumb penalties as well.

Ryan Donato might be the answer at 3C.

This is his first season playing C (to my knowledge). He has been over 50% on face-offs. He has 8 ES goals through 19 games so far. He also throws the body with 8.6 hits/60 at 5v5 which would be 4th among Leafs regular forwards.

He would be an interesting off the board option to center an offensive 3rd line.

I know we want to keep Marner and Tavares together, but if we can split them up again I like the support it gives Minten to succeed as our 3C. Then maybe we trade for a 4C.

Kampf + ???? for Acciari?

Knies Matthews Domi
Paccioretty Tavares Nylander
McMann Minten Marner

Lorentz Acciari Dewar
Steeves
Holmberg
Grebenkin
Reaves
Kampf?

I have been impressed by Minten so far but I am hesitant to pencil him in as the 3C solution this season. Especially if the goal of the line is to produce significant offense (as is any line with Marner/Nylander).

I still think the best option for him and the Leafs is to go down to the AHL and make a calder cup run once the NHL roster is healthy.

As for Acciari - I am indifferent. If you can offload Kampf for a pending UFA I'm all in - I just wouldn't be excited to give up any of their 2nds or 3rds to make the deal happen. I've been proposing Kampf for Bastian which I think NJ might be more motivated to do given Lazar's struggles this year and Keefe's trust for Kampf as a 4C.

I like Minten too and I am also not sure he is a playoff answer for us...however, I like the idea of finding out over the next 30 or 40 games and supporting him and setting him up to succeed.

I am also indifferent on Acciari and would be happy to swap him for Kampf, directly or indirectly just to save a few bucks this year and next. I think we can build a Berube type of fourth line

Lorentz Acciari Dewar

Eight minutes a night, maybe more with speed, grit, defensive awareness. Maybe Lorentz, Dewar, and Steeves do that without picking up a year on Acciari. Either way, I think Kampf has to go unless we get more players on IR the rest of the way.

So they'd like to dump their overpriced declining players, who aren't contributing enough? Who would have thought? There surely will be plenty of people lining up for a forward earning $6.5 mil for the next three years, with nine assists and no goals, and Trouba with his $8 mil contract.

Seems like it. We're not great trading partners for that reason. I would have interest in Kakko but likely hard to pull off. Kreider would fit perfectly as well but he's too expensive cap wise.

I could see Edmonton, Utah, Seattle and Ottawa poking around. Detroit will probably go hard after Trouba if I'm a betting man.

Kreider has 9 goals, 0 assists. I would think there'd be a market for him.

24 goals in 43 games in the last 3 playoffs.

Pacing 38 goals/82GP since his 52 goal season.

I could see him going to Boston for a package of Frederic and Geekie. Gives NYR cap flexibility beyond this season, gives Boston someone who can actually score.
