I think I’m moving into the wait and see side regarding a 3C. We’re strong on the wing, so it might be a good time to see what Minten can do with an extended look.

When healthy,

Knies - Matthews - Domi
Pacioretty - Tavares - Marner
McMann - Minten - Nylander
Lorentz - Kampf - Holmberg
Reaves

Grebenkin first call up when injuries take place. Trade Robertson.
Get rid of Holmberg for a pick and slide Grebs in beside Lorentz and Kampf.

Still have some warm bodies ready to go if needed like Steeves/Nylander

If we could somehow get Kadri at 4.5 that would be an amazing forward group.

Knies Matthews Domi
McMann Tavares Marner
Patches Kadri Nylander
Grebenkin Lorentz Dewar
Reeves

Kampf traded for Cap, Holmberg and Robertson also traded

Goodluck trying to match any of those lines

If Robertson were traded, it’ll probably be for a player in a similar situation. Tomasino comes to mind right away.

Definitely our best bet, or a package of some kind and he's part of it. If I'm a rebuilding team, he's definitely got value.

I don't think we should blow our load on any long term C contracts this close to #97 being a FA. Bring back Tavares at a discount and promote Minten to 3C.

I'd consider Robertson for Frost, both teams get to test drive the player ahead of RFA re-signing phase, if it doesn't work out, both teams can simply not tender the player but they both are not doing well in their current environment.

Some smoke around former Conn Smyth trophy winner Ryan O'Reilly, and the Toronto Maple Leafs.

I bought his jersey, so I guess I know where my opinion lies.

Who was his coach when he won that award?

I believe OP is referring to Mirtle's radio hit on JD Bunkis' show yesterday.

Mirtle simply mentioned that he doesn't see it as being impossible that the Leafs would look to re-acquire him if the Preds decided to do a tear-down. He said that Leafs management still loves the player. I don't think he was suggesting that anything was imminent or that it was ever discussed.

Personally, I wish ROR stayed with the Leafs and re-signed. I don't love the idea of spending assets now to re-acquire him when we already did that once. I guess for me it would be determined by the price which I imagine would be high.

I don't think there's any smoke. Mirtle mentioned the other day some options, but it was speculation on his part.

ROR had his chance to stay. He jumped ship. He can enjoy being bottom of the league with Nashville.

I'm all for the Leafs swinging a big trade for a good 2/3 Center with term, but I hope he's younger and not someone who has snubbed the team before.

This article mentions what Mirtle said (it also mentioned that Nashville is looking for a Center, so I don't see why they would even trade ROR.)

I think the statement below should end any debate

In a recent edition of the Empty Netters Podcast, it was reported that Ryan O'Reilly stated that there is a pair in the Toronto Maple Leafs who will never win a Stanley Cup. Ryan O'Reilly is a well-respected forward in the NHL, having paid his dues to the league for 15 years.
