I didn't compare the players, merely the definition. I've seen plenty of Gourde and I don't see a truculent or super feisty player, certainly not more than what we already have. He's small and fast, and no issues with his on ice competitiveness.

Gourde is the opposite of soft. You have trauma of the small players Dubas targeted in the past because they ended up being players like Alex Kerfoot.

Not sure about "opposite of soft" for my viewings but he was a good player for awhile with plenty of feistiness. Now he's small, older and can't contribute offensively, and he's expensive.

But sure, I take it back -- he's not soft.

The maximum for a conditioning stint is 6 days or 3 AHL games. So they should be ready to be activated by tomorrow (6 days) unless they regressed in their health.

I expect the Leafs to make a waivers move today... but maybe tomorrow.

I look around, and think what we need the most, is a C, someone who can be a 3C. I'd prefer some size, and physicality... for teams who might be out of the playoffs, it's Laughton who comes up first. 10th in the league in hits.

Depending on how their season goes, Mark Kastelic in Boston is having a good year, after mostly being a clear cut 4C. He's only 25, 6'4", 226 lbs... He has 7 points, though his shooting percentage isn't sustainable, but on Boston he's a +9, and also has 56 hits. Maybe there is a chance he can grow into the 3C role.. given he has been fairly productive with Boston as a 3/4C. Kastelic makes $835k on the cap, and is a RFA after this season. Second in the league in hits.

Of course, I'm always going to bring up Jack McBain, but I just don't think he will be available, and Utah is having a decent season for now, with a young up and coming team. 16th in the league in hits.

I wonder about adding Mathieu Olivier RW from Columbus. 27 Yo, UFA at the end of the year, $1.1 mil. 6'1" 226lbs. 11th in the league in hits.

All of these bring size, physicality, have a decent defensive side to their game, are being used heavily in the dzone, and are outscoring our bottom six.

This would end up being the forward group.

It would have six players, in the top 31 in the NHL in hits for forwards. If you are going to run a top heavy team, make the bottom half of the team brutal to play against, a group who will wear the opposition down... and really we don't give up anything defensively, and perhaps improve offensively over where we are now.

This is an exception third line, built on size, speed...

Our powerplay starts clicking and we take 3 of 4 pts.
It probably cost us 4+ points through the first 12 games or so.
You look at all the advanced stats and it shows we're playing pretty good hockey.
I think the play style is also more conducive to translating to postseason success.

I think now or at least at some point, you go and get that legitimate #2-#3 center and this group would look like a bonifide contender. If theres some names that become available that are difference makers with term, I would be okay with them potentially trading Cowan.

ROR didn't like his time here apparently. He chose his bed but if he changes his mind and the price is relatively low, obviously you take a shot at him.

Sissons is probably someone Treliving/Leafs would like and Tomasino for me would be a good target for a buy low option.

Indeed, fa4 from soft, but his better days are still behind him, but you could say that about Rielly, McCabe, OEL, Tanev, the giant Finn, Patches, JT, and Reevo. Did I miss anyone?

Yeah, they don't play until Nov 9th so going by days...today is a trade / waiver kind of day.

No moves today...as per Friedman, just Carlsson (SJS) on waivers today.

I'm just opining here but that may have had more to do with the casual nature of the coaching than the players. Keefe was unstructured and easy, Berube is .... not. I think Rielly did not jive with the culture here which was in no small part driven by coaching. Could be much different this time around, though I can't see us picking up his contract.

Who knows but the same players are here and the city isn't any different. It's a tough market and not everyone can handle it. Maybe it was about the coaches but a lot insiders mentioned that he prefers to stay low key where he plays
