Thinking ahead to the deadline, there's two guys I like:

C: Jake Evans. Under-the-radar bottom-six C. Right Shot PK & amazing defensively.
D: Jan Rutta: Cup winner. Big and Mobile. Right shot. A guy who can move up and down the lineup (Let's say Hakanpaa or Tanev gets hurt). Can PK.

The trade I recall was Knies, Mrazek, multiple firsts for Fluery and Hagel.

That wouldve been very bad. We need a Knies type player more than a Hagel...and multiple firsts - Yikes.

The proposed deal would have seen the Blackhawks acquiring Matthew Knies, Petr Mrazek, and 'first-round picks' in exchange for Brandon Hagel and Marc-Andre Fleury.

Jake Evans is my target as well. I think he would slide into that third line center role perfectly.

As a full timer he's not that great and I don't see aspects of his game that suggest he ever will be. His style of play has very low overall game impact and his goals rely on line mates doing most of the work to utilize his finish with the exception of zero-worth pre-season goals.

Retirement deals are the new RFA. It sort of flipped with the kids all getting 9m here 10m there for good players. Now you sort of have to navigate that and gamble on a team like the Leafs with big contracts.

Outside of this fanbase, I don't know if Robertson ever had a high value. I think nearly everyone can see his limitations as a player, and most GMs aren't fixated on small, jittery players.

I think a team looking for a top six forward who can score would be interested, yes he has defensive limitations, but so does Nylander…….

His highest value was immediately after being drafted and even then he was only worth a second round pick.

Too fragile he's a certified band-aid boy. Even when healthy he only has one trick. And he's not even very good at that one trick.

There's lots and lots of guys who can score 15-20 goals a year while adding very little value anywhere else.

A disgruntled player who isn't performing well and has a history of injuries isn't usually a hot commodity. That's not to say the Leafs won't be able to trade him. But if they want something back in return other than another team's reclamation project someone else might need to be added to any trade involving Robertson.

At this point he's either waiver bait or a cap dump for future considerations.

This has been thrown around multiple times before but I think an easy flip of Robertson for Tomasino and a 5th rounder would be a good change of scenery for both these players and adding an extra later pick to be able to use at the deadline never hurts.

My somewhat big time underrated move would be to go hard after Brock Nelson. Islanders are not gonna make the playoffs and with Lamoriello likely out the door soon there, I think they will blow it up.

I definitely wouldn’t be upset acquiring Nelson. But one thing I’m hoping we focus on this next off-season would be getting younger, faster and bigger. These past couple of seasons we’ve gotten bigger, older and slower and I think it’s resulted in us taking a step backwards.

I’m hoping Grebenkin can continue to get stronger, use his size and get more comfortable on the smaller ice surface. I mentioned previously Evans’ name as a target, I think a third line of McMann - Evans - Grebenkin could be pretty dangerous on both ends of the ice. It’s got a good mix of size, skill, physicality, offensive and defensive awareness, etc.

He’d definitely help solidify us at C and bring much needed secondary production which appears to remain an issue for us. A lot of teams will be after him if available I would imagine.

I think he probably gets you a +/- Liljegren level return when all is said and done.

Ryan Lomberg and Brandon Tanev would be nice Mr Personality guys we could grab for depth roles. I know Lomberg just signed in Calgary and they don't do business with us... but Richmond Hill guy and depth Panther the past few years. Tanev is a UFA and maybe they'd be willing to accommodate him and bring him home to the Leafs.

I am sure the Leafs decisions surrounding the C position at the trade deadline will heavily depend on how close Minten is to being a bottom 6 C in the NHL.
The cap situation in the offseason becomes so much simpler if Minten can be penciled in as the 3C for next year.

Minten actually brings some size, as does Grebenkin.

So if there are injuries we might get to see how close they are this year?

At the deadline, Leafs would have to have Cap to add players.

Kampf is the key player to be involved as they aren't moving anyone else out that has more than minimum money on their Cap.

Tavares and marner are only UFA players they'd care about and they're staying.

I hope they can't make any move at the deadline and just use the players already in the system.

Let the coach earn his compensation, by getting the team ready for the post-season.
