Is there not a conflict with father/son gm/player?
It could be, but Shane isn’t in charge anyway.

The Knies-Matthews connection would make him feel right at home.
Isn’t he an assistant GM?It could be, but Shane isn’t in charge anyway.
Isn’t he an assistant GM?
Unless his detail is the marlies or something I would think that’s a conflict

Assistant TO THE... GM. (Technically he's a special advisor to the GM.)
There are no official rules/conflicts for this stuff. Maybe unofficially or whatever but there are no rules where a player can't play for an organisation where they have family in management.
Skyler Brind'Amour is part of the Hurricans org and his dad is the head coach. He hasn't played an NHL game yet but did play in pre-season.
Why would it be a conflict?Isn’t he an assistant GM?

He's a pretty good player, and it's odd that he's sitting.Valimaki was also picked by Treliving. Could be something there.

However, I'm not sure of the fit. There are already too many LDs.
So one more game remaining before Dewar and Hakanpaa gets activated?
Is there a tarde coming this week we think
Jarnkrok is still long ways awayand potentially Jarnkrok as well.
I don't like it, TBH. Rather, just keep Liljegren and play him. When Hakanpaa is healthy, the Leafs have 5 RHD and 4 LHD on the NHL roster. It's nice to finally have RHD depth and I don't disagree that RHD depth needs to be valued. McCabe and OEL have shown to be versatile with playing good RD minutes. Hypothetically if they make a Liljegren for Valimaki swap the depth becomes:
LHD - RHD
Rielly - Tanev
OEL - Timmins
McCabe - Hakanpaa
Benoit - Myers
Valimaki
I'll be surprised if he plays; the guy was signed for the LTIR space. So one more game remaining before Dewar and Hakanpaa gets activated?

I don't get how you sign an injured D two years in a row.
Don't you accrue cap space by being on LTIR?If anything it's a lot worse to be in LTIR because you don't accrue cap space.
I suppose, but it just looks bad that others avoided him like the plague, as well as coming after the Klingberg issue from last season. They signed him to be a player this season. Instead of trading for Lyubushkin for the 3rd time, or someone of his ilk, they signed one.

Okay, but if they keep his 1.4 on LTIR and presumably put him on LTIR as near to the cap as possible, would they still have that pool (or the difference) to exceed the cap?Nope, you don't. A big reason the Leafs constantly have to get other teams to double retain and pay extra picks is because they never accrue cap space. I was hoping the Leafs would make it a priority to clear off contracts instead of being a penny away from being cap compliant... but nope...

Okay, so, that space is potentially worth more than playing him at this point because who knows what he's going to play like.Yes.

Anyway, that was the main idea of the post.
The conflict is clear…. Team best interest vs son best interest. If they don’t align, which best interest is the priority?
That being said, these kinds of things occur in every decision.
