Top prospects are rarely, if ever traded for rentals, so I'm not sure where the idea that the Leafs would need to give up Cowan is coming from regardless

The only way I could see a guy like Cowan, Minten or Danford moved is if we're getting a young cost controlled 2C back, or a long term partner for Rielly

I think you can justify paying a high price if you're getting the ideal player of need back, like the Horvat deal for the Islanders

I'd still probably just get a guy like Dvorak, who I think is going to be cheapish and whilst not a world beater would be useful if we run into injuries

I wanted to gauge my eyes out any time I saw people casually offering up Knies for rentals a few years ago. He was pretty close to untouchable, I would think Cowan is in the same boat.

If we’re getting a number top 4 young right shot Dman at a cheap cost he’s gone I would think

Problem is a #2 d-man and/or Top 6 power-forward has been next to impossible for Leafs to land.

It might be a lateral move overall, although getting a d-man who plays 20 minutes a night versus a forward playing 18?

Maybe overall improvement, especially if one of their prospects can bring back/replace that grit?

I was speaking about Cowan knies is a big no move you thinking Cowans ready to play 18 min a night for the leafs?

Leafs traded for Muzzin without giving up a prospect anywhere near Cowan's level (Durzi eventually boomed, but hadn't at the time of his trade).

I can't name a single trade in recent years where a team gave up a Cowan level prospect during a tdl deal. Not sure why the Leafs have to suddenly do so.

We traded a first durzi and Grundstrom ? You don’t think that’s more than Cowan worth alone ?

Nope. Cowan is a natural centre and is by far the teams best prospect. Quality always greater than quantity when it comes to prospects.

I'd have no hesitation giving up a couple of other lesser prospects in place of Cowan.

He’s my guy too but he can be sacrificed to fill a need of the franchise name me a solid young top 4 right shot and I pull the trigger we have Mitch Matthews nylander up front we need someone On d we have solid dmen but we need a right shot better than McCabe

The contract ended up abit ludicrous, but I’m still pretty confident he’s the perfect C for Willy.
Yup. It's about 1 mill rich and 2 years too long, but his two-way ability would be perfect for the 2C position. Boston is in a bad spot and they may want to get out from the contract while they still can. It probably won't cost much to take him. Send them enough expiring money and a few mid prospects like Steeves and Niemela.

I’d keep steeves he’s more further along but I agree with the approach not sure we have enough contracts to offset that contract though then put him with Mitch and play them against the other teams best lines

Steve Simmons seems to think we are in on Laughton. One more year at 3 million. Would fit with Berube.

He’s okay; I would rather a bigger addition though.

I think I’d rather him on his contract than Max on his. That’s halfway there. Add Kampfs money and you’re at 6+ of the 7.5 to matching.
There’s probably a way where you can do it and feel okay.

I don't think they would take either of those two unless we actually gave up something of value.

Trading a good player on a bad contract for a meh player and a bad player on bad contracts probably won't be much more enticing to them than just keeping Lindholm. You'd have to give them contracts that are coming off the books sooner rather than later imo.

Rarely does it pay off in getting the "premium" trade deadline rental.

Leafs are not desesperate for a 7,75M 3C than i don't think will have any kind of succes over 33. For me Lindholm is a kind of Plekanec 2.0, over 33 he will be a 3rd shutdown defensive C close of 8M of cap hit. People crying about Kampf with his 2,4M but at the same time want Lindholm at 7,75M?!?!?! What the hell going on here. He will be by far worst contract in his last 3 and what he will bring intrhe first 3 1/2 don't deserve to take that risk.

The Leafs have been linked to Laughton ever since Treliving took over. I also think he'd be a good fit. My only downside is that he's not a right shot but that's probably not a big concern.

We do need a right handed center

Bjugstad is big, fast and a right shot, we probably do need more team speed.

Laughton would be nice, I suspect the price is quite high though.
