Is Luke Schenn really that much better than Phillipe Myers? Or if at all? Luke has slowed down significantly due to age.

Rather get an upgrade overall who's also physical like a Connor Murphy

No, he won't, but Rantanen is a good option to replace some of what Marner does (point production) and some of what Knies does (power forward stuff), as you could hope to find.

But the real selling point is the playoff success he's had. He had more goals in one series vs. Seattle than Mitch has had in 5 years.

He's also disappeared now that he is not beside MacKinnon... I'd like him here, I just would be worried it might backfire.

The whole arms race is kinda dumb. Florida-Toronto-Tampa 1 of those team is out first round for sure, that's assets out the window for someone.

To be fair, Tampa and Florida have both made moves with term. Bjorkstrand and Jones aren't rentals.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Gourde re-up in Tampa for a good deal either.

This ^ as much as we all love Knies and his power forward mindset, Rantanen is a flat producer and more importantly he’s done it deep into the playoffs. Can we also mention he’s 6ft4 and like 220 pounds. Dude is a beast. You make that trade you can basically put out 3 scoring lines every night. Summertime you’d have to figure some shit out but for the stretch run there is no denying the Leafs would be a dangerous team. Now if Rantanen came with an extension giddy up. Again… I love Knies but you could sell high, get a prime player and then deal with the Marner negotiation in the summer

I am 100% done with this team if they do this.

Knies is about as untradeable as you can get right now. Make no mistake about it, I want Treliving and the Leafs to make a move to counter what Tampa and Florida have done so far. But this is not the right move at all.

I would rather them stand pat then make this trade.

If knies+ gets you extended Rantanen you do that 10 times out of 10

I still wish we had dealt Knies back in 2022 and gotten Hagel whose a superstar version of whatever Knies ceiling is likely to be.

People here are crazy overrating Knies if hes off the table for an extended rantanen.

Rental rantanen sure no point making that move.

If he'd sign here now (extend) then he'd sign here in the summer. IMO we're already losing Marner - may as well just roll the dice on UFA Rants.

I think there is a huge systematic shift for Rantanen in Carolina. Brind'amour runs a really tight system there, and it's nearly the opposite of the way Colorado plays.

But obviously, not having Mackinnon is going to have its effects.

If they made that move that would be the end of me as a leafs fan I think, especially if they don’t win the cup. Trading Knies is buffoonery.. do whatever it takes to keep Knies and get Rantanen

Hagel makes half of what Rantanen is going to. I like Rantanen but that 12.5+ with a full NMC is a game of Russian roulette.

Edit: that said I’d do a 3 way trade where we sent picks + prospects to Vancouver, they send Carolina Boeser+, we get to talk to Rantanen’s camp on a general contract framework but wait to sign the extension until we see what we got and where Marner/Tavares are at.

I’d give Cowan, Florida’s 2nd, and they take Kampf to make the salary cap work.
