Speculation: 2024/25 Trade Rumours, Speculation etc Thread

Perfetti+ would be insane for Nelson as a rental.

They won't do that nor will it be the ask.

It will be a first plus something. Teams competing never trade key parts of their teams at the deadline unless said piece is an expiring asset (Rantanen) and even then it isn't common.

People are putting way too much stock in a random nobody on Twitter.

Not one credible site or reporter has Cole in our list of assets available. It's all draft picks and prospects which is what contenders are usually willing to pony up.

A declining Nelson for 3 years is better than what we have now and what we’ve struggled with for years. Jets will never win without a 2C. With the way the cap is going they can take a chance on Nelson. Worse case scenario he falls off a cliff. So they move him to the win and down the lineup. They’d still be in the same position as now - needing a 2C but at least they’d have had a quality C for this playoff run.

And the odds are that he won’t fall off a massive cliff as early as next season. If you can sign him you do. The cap gives you flexibility.

At this point I think if Nelson gets traded it's gonna be here, just based on what insiders are saying I suspect they are unwilling to get outbid there. I'm more interested in what might happen with defense adds, I'm wondering if they are looking to upgrade at both Top-4 RHD and bottom pair LHD. It would be crazy expensive in terms of futures for sure but if there was ever a year to go for it I think this is it.

Yeah, that's what I thought last year.
If Chevy goes 'all in', I hope he is a lot smarter about it than he was last year.

Where did you hear 3 years?

Things always get a bit weird at this time of year. Perfetti won't be any part of a rental trade.

Brock Nelson for 2-3 years while the Jets figure out if Yaeger or Lambert are 2c quality would be appealing imo.

The delta vs recent years of his overall production is PP, with NYI being one of the worst in the league on the PP. Actually, 32nd in GF/60.

Don't watch enough NYI to say is it systematic/structure vs player. Some of it is on him of course. But he wouldn't be that bad on this Jets PP imo where every player is feasting.

More notable, Nelson has a 2.3 5v5 pts/60 (would be near the tops on the Jets). Compared with 1.7 PP pts/60. The 5v5 scoring hasn't differed much the last few years. However, 4 PP pts this year, and ranged from 15-19 the last 3.

When a player is more efficient scoring at 5v5 than the PP, I feel like that's not sustainable.

Untouchable? No. Not even close.

But sure as heck should not be trading him for a UFA.

Exactly. When was the last time a top 6 caliber team and cost controlled asset was traded for a rental? It doesn't happen.

The types of deals assets like Perfetti might be included in generally happen in the summer and are for players with term left.

GMs don't weaken their teams heading into the playoffs. Whether you like him or not Cole has been a big part of the teams success this year. Chevy wants a Nelson to play with Fly and Cole and strengthen the second line.

One thing is for certain. Jets fans over rate Perfetti.
He is good. Sure. But isn’t untouchable.
No one is even sure he wants to be here long term either.
Look at his contract negotiations.
He is quite overrated especially by a couple posters, but no chance he gets dealt at the tdl for a rental. I think if Clarke or Dobson are on the table in the off-season that may be a trade to explore.

I think it was the Jets that didn't want to go long term on Perfetti at this point. It was the right call IMO but he's still a valuable asset / player to the team. If Ehlers walks on July 1, all the more so.

He won't be traded for an UFA but I could see him being dealt in a legitimate hockey trade which rarely happens if ever at the TDL. And it would need to be to fill a glaring need for Chevy to move him.

I don't think either wanted to go long term based on last season

We all know Chevy will not trade a player drafted by the Jets unless he asks for a trade.
Also Perfetti is improving every year ... you don't trade a player on the upside as for the contract negotiations its no big deal. One party wanted a long extension and one party thought they were worth more and wanted to prove it.

Less than 24 hours to go until this endless trade talk ends and the teams can go back to playing Jets hockey.

Soucy to NYR, not sure what they're doing
Damn, heard Soucy was an option for the Jets.

We gonna end up with 2 of the following players between Ferraro, ristolainin, Nelson or laughton imo

Clearly need to address issues both on defense and offense.. doubt we strand pat with all the flexibility we have in terms of cap space.. I would even retain some cap for another team in exchange for a draft pick
