What kind of game is this? I dont think anyone had Florida as the team picking up Jones...
Carolina has a need for a primary puck mover and hed be a big upgrade over Gostisbehere, can afford him in the offseason with Orlov and Burns expiring
Detroit has the need for a puck moving LD and capspace
LA has need for a puck moving LD and can fit him in the offseason
MIN need LD and have cap space, Rielly may not be an ideal fit with Faber getting prime offensive opportunities but could still work as they dont have much offence from the backend outside of him

Agreed that Rielly probably doesn't waive.
With respect to the LD problem, yeah, not ideal. But maybe these two guys can play right or have better chemistry with one of the other guys playing right. We'd have to solve the RD issue in the summer.
Why does San Jose do this? Walman is an F.A. at the end of the year and Ferraro has one year left. They're not going to be long-term San Jose guys. Rielly is signed for a long time. They get a veteran to help mentor all of the young guys on the team - Rielly is known to be a leader. They would also have to believe that Rielly is just having a down year and will find his mojo again in a new city and a new system. It wasn't that long ago when Rielly was pretty good (especially in the playoffs).
Toronto does if because those 2 guys are from the Toronto area. (Walman is my friend's second cousin lol) For sure they'd sign long-term here. As one of you guys mentioned the other day - these are the type of players you battle the Panthers with. Especially Ferraro. The guy is a dressing room leader. Add Kunin (or Donato) and B. Tanev and you've got a nice mix of warriors.

Hypothetically, yes probably. McLeod is a 25 year old RFA this summer having a career year. Not sure why Buffalo would want to do that though...

Sorry I should have reiterated the full question I asked earlier - can you name a team that you believe Rielly would waive to go to and move his young family? Of the teams you come up with - do you think they'd take Rielly?
Buffalo is in need of a good goalie moving forward and Woll has more team control that McLeod. They are also flush with C's in the pipeline.

Absolutely not but that is the question that has been asked on this board for the entire season.
He's in a very rare situation in the NHL where his wife was born relatively close to Toronto and he gets to raise his kids with their grandparents and he has complete control over that. A lot of people wouldn't give that up when they don't have to.

Especially at 775k, it should be a no brainer for a team looking for secondary scoring
Its not a discussion because he likely just wont waive.... by saying teams wouldnt take him for free is disingenuous.

I think half OEL's problem is he's wearing down as the season progresses, he might be soap by the time the playoffs start, this doesn't surprise me in the least since he's been a good soldier, but is playing too many minutes imo..........Here are the results from last nights game. They are very typical from our season this year. With both expected, and actual results, playing OEL on his offside, is not a good thing. In addition, our weakest D man, defensively, has consistently been Benoit, not Timmins. We like Benny, he's tough, he's physical, but he hasn't been good this year... even with McCabe.
Interesting that Rielly - Myers had decent results... One game only, but it does show you, Morgan doesn't need a flashy partner, just someone to do what he doesn't.
It looked like I could drop the chart in here, but it didn't seem to work. Meh... doesn't work/

If he finishes the season at the same rate he's played so far and he has a similar playoffs to last year I don't see how that's disingenuous. He's a poor defensive player who isn't trusted to play on the PP anymore and is 50th in the league in ES scoring yet he's the 27th highest paid defenseman. He'll also be 31 and signed through his age 35 season.
Remember - Tampa had to take back bad money to move McDonagh's contract.
I also feel I need to reiterate my initial statement. I didn’t say no one would take Rielly for free. I said I don’t know if any of the teams that he would conceivably waive to go to would take him for free.

Could be, if our guys play their hearts out and we need that little edge to push us over the top. Could also not make a lick of difference if the core players aren't difference makers.
Most likely scenario is another first round exit of course. Hard to argue with the historical evidence there unfortunately.
The problem with standing pat right now is that this isn't a decision made in a vacuum. The decision to double/triple/quadruple down was made last off-season. Waffling and changing direction now is really going to hurt.

What is the timeline on what I suspect is a broken foot? He left the game after blocking a shot.
If you stashed him on LTIR for a while to heal up and cost was low, is he worse than all our other forward options?

I doubt Philly moves him for that package - they likely want Greb + 1st for Laughton alone, and Benoit doesn't get you Foerster. The Carlo deal I don't love nor hate. But you can't move Robby out without replacing him, and so if the Philly deal doesn't happen I'm guessing neither does the move for Carlo.

On the public front, we heard a subtle message regarding where both sides might stand when reporter Andy Strickland, who has his ear to the ground covering the Blues, said: “Toronto has the pieces to make a deal for Brayden Schenn but as of now haven’t put a package together to make it work.”
As a counter to that comment, Treliving downplayed Leafs fans’ expectations by insinuating they shouldn’t hold their breath waiting for a big deal.
“Ultimately, it’s more about looking at your team: Where are the areas that you think you can improve upon? Are there players out there that can make a difference and move the needle? And sometimes moving the needle is small,” he said.
Treliving certainly appears to be covering himself in the event he doesn’t pull anything significant off with St. Louis or another team by Friday’s 3 p.m. ET trade deadline. But that doesn’t change the fact he and head coach Craig Berube seem to be the most invested NHL club in Schenn as a trade target.
There’s a way this deal can happen and satisfy both sides, but Blues president and GM Doug Armstrong will have to back off his attempts to get blood out of a stone from the Leafs.
Armstrong’s rumoured ask of three blue-chip pieces is unattainable. That would mean any combination of top prospects Easton Cowan, Fraser Minten and Ben Danford and next year’s first-round draft pick. That’s a non-starter for the Leafs.
For a Schenn deal to happen, Armstrong has to acknowledge that while the centreman is still a productive player — he had 38 points in 62 games and was second on the team in hits heading into Wednesday night’s game against Los Angeles — he is also a depreciating asset. The soon-to-be 34-year-old is producing at a third-line level — which is where he’d likely slot in on the Leafs — in second-line minutes for the Blues.
Schenn is a great pro, and Berube, who won a Cup while coaching Schenn in St. Louis six years ago, publicly proclaimed his appreciation for the player last week.

Hilarious. Because they gave up Necas, someone they've been trying to trade for awhile, and now are trying to get our best young power forward.
If the Leafs made a hockey trade or two and removed some winger depth, he could have been an interesting shot in the dark for depth. Doubtful before 2pm.

I asked on a Sabres thread.. they'd like a 4th for Krebs. You get a real C for cheap, he's under control for years, $1.45 mil for this and next year, then RFA. 24 years old, good in the dot, has some physicality... I mean, screw this 1st + Cowan for Schenn stuff... a 4th is nothing to take a gamble on a young kid, who likely ends up being better out of Buffalo. Assuming Buffalo the org, values him the same as fans. Worst case scenario, is he's just a 4C... and cheaper than Kampf for next year, so you move Kampf, save some money for years. Best case, he blossoms into a 3C or better... he was 2ppg in his last year in the WHL, 8 points in 7 games for Canada at WJC... I think there is more there... but if the cost is just a 4th... I mean man, that's an easy yes.

So Rielly has 61% offensive zone starts at 5 on 5 and still at 49.8 CF%
